Sinus Infection

Last week I came down with a viral throat infection which about five days ago turned into a bacterial sinus infection.  I am 24 weeks pregnant and until this row of infections, everything was going perfectly fine.  Now my doctor has put me on 10-days of Amoxicillin (1 pill 3x per day) and Nasonex (1 spray in each nostril 2x per day).  Is this all safe?  I've read that Amoxicillin is safe during pregnancy.  I have also read that Nasonex ISN'T so safe.  I do not know what to do now.  Should I continue taking the Nasonex until this sinus infection clears up? Should I just leave it up to the antibiotics to clear it up?  Oh, how I wish this was less complicated. :)

Mine always clear up with just the antibiotics.  Never needed a nasal spray.

I suggest you call and ask your dr. or your pharmacist.  Both would know what is best for you and baby.  Congratulations on your pregnancy and I hope you feel better soon!! Bobbie

Hi Agathasz,

I would suggest trying a Neti pot with warm salt water.

Here's a couple of links worth reading:

http://www.webmd.com/allergies/sinus-pain-pressure-9/neti-pots

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Neti_pot

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nasal_irrigation

It's pretty effective, very safe and inexpensive.

Hope this helps and good luck with your pregnancy...

I agree with PT747, the warm salt water works wonders.  I use it myself.

Melissa.
