IMO I believe it also depends on your eating habits.  If you eat a variety of foods, including fruits, veges, etc., I think a multivitamin woud be enough.  However if you have any underlying conditions such as osteopenia or osteoporosis, you may need extra calcium/vit D3.  Same goes for any other illness you may have.  Personally I really make sure of things even with a healthy diet, but aside from the calcium/vit D3 (I have osteopenia), i also take magnesium, potassium (I'm on a diuretic, and potassium is prescribed), and a multivitamin.

The first thing you need to do is get in and have either you primary doctor or and endocrinologist run a vitamin panel on your blood after you have stopped all supplementation.  This will give you a clue as where you are at and then they can make reccomendations as to what you need take daily. Generally an endocrinologist is going to be better at doing this than a regular internist so just keep that in mind too.

OHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I can't believe I forgot this!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you do take extra vitamin D YOU NEED TO TAKE VITAMN D3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! NOT D2!!!! D3!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!  That is super super important and most multivitamins have D2 versus D3 in them which is bad because your body does not absorb D3 as well as it does D3.

Thanks so much everyone for the great advice...  For now I will just stick with the multivitamin and check to see if I need any extra of the ones that are not 100% of the recommended allowence...  I read somewhere that the daily allowence of Potassium is 4700mg, thats a lot and my multi vitamin only has 80mg  so I have been making sure I get extra of it by looking at the food lables and stuff... My main problem is I hate veggies and I definately dont get enough fiber... That is my biggest thing.... The recommended daily amount of that is 25g and I doubt I get ten.

I know what you mean of the fiber--I barely get 1/2 if  I am lucky.

I would definately check with a doctor on a vitamin D3 level... and on how much they reccomend. The reccomend levels daily right now I believe are around 1,000-2,000 I.U. a day but I am not quite sure so don't hold me to that, however it is turning out that some people need WAY more than that and some people only need a little more than that, so they are considering revising the levels. I would ask your doctor about it because he or she could get you started on the right supplement regiment and track your progress. I personally have to take 100.000 IU of vitamin D on the weekends and 50.000 IU during the week just to keep my levels semi normal.  If I don't they plummet.  So like I said every person is different so I wouldn't go just by reccomended values.
