Did you know you are over two times more likely to be involved in a medical mistake classified as a "wrong patient error" or failure to identify a patient resulting in death than being killed in a motor vehicle accident.
The good news is we can collectively share in taking responsibility of reducing medical mistakes and oversights by taking personal responsibility for our health records.
The idea beind the personal health record (PHR) is that the more individuals know about their health, the more control they will take over over it and healthier they will be. PHR's also encourage consumers to collect, manage and share more health-related information with each of their providers. It is for this reason physicians, healthcare providers, employers, insurers, vendors and the federal government are all interested in promoting PHRs.
