Trying To Get Off Seroquel

I've heard nothing but bad stuff about Seroquel's side effects.  It's caused me to gain 50 lbs approx. and I've just spoken about this with my psychiatrist.  He agrees with me and we have halved my Seroquel from 100mg to 50 mg.  Now I'm not sleeping well most nights, and get terrible nightmares.

Also, I've heard that the way that Seroquel makes you gain weight is that it causes you to crave carbs.  The person telling me this said I should go on a "modified Atkins diet".  Is this true?

That medicine is bad news!!!.I was on it and it had terrible side effects.Talk to your doctor and see if there is something else.I didn't care about any weigh gain, but the way it makes you feel and the night mares are awful...Thats just my opinion.

I read up on Seroquel and Damn it doesn`t sound good.  I would try and get off them too.  Maybe there is something a little more user friendly out there for you.  I myself take Paxil CR for Anxiety.  They work great for me, but they to make me gain weight by the minuite.  I read about the Atkins diet also.  I know a few people who have done it and have lost weight.  The more I read about it the more turned off I get from it.  Can you  imagine all the cholesteral you will digest.  How hard all the meat would be on your stomach...  It just doesn`t seem to healthy to me.   Do some reading up on the Atkins diet and see if it is for you.  Read the pro`s and con`s.

Good luck

Hi there,

Just replying to mymartinez and lifeexperiences and updating a little bit.

Thank you two for replying!  I can't wait to finally be rid of this medication.  I had a couple of somewhat good night's sleeps so I'm wondering if everything's going to be okay from now on with the sleep and the nightmares and whatnot.  I see my psych on Feb. 10th and that's when I finally kick the Seroquel for good.  Maybe I can talk him into lowering some of my other meds too... I feel that I am waaaaay overmedicated!  It may sound silly, but I haven't had GRAPEFRUIT in about 10 years because of all the psych meds I'm on.  It all started with Prozac.  I want a grapefruit again!  Ahhh, I can just taste it!  So foolish...:)

Anyway, I would eventually like to get off/lower all my psych meds, but don't know how possible that is.  They all seem to have terribly crappy withdrawal symptoms...

Mrs.Lovett;Unfortunaly all the meds seem to have side effects, but glad you are getting off the Seroquel!!!!

I went thru some many meds before I found the ones right for me.I am on Cymbalta, and Clonazepam.Thats helps in.During the winter months I have to up my Cymbalta cause I also have SAD.

Even thou I would like to get off meds altogether,I can't cause my problems run in my family.

I have to way the good with the bad(side effects)so I have to just deal with them..

Take Care

I totally understand your feelings about the symptoms of SSRI's (getting on and getting off).  I really don't want to be on the Paxil CR no more.  I love the way it works but I can't stand the weight gain and the thought of having to be on pills for the rest of my life.

I wish you luck with your next appointment and hopefully you can get off those pills and find something else that would work good for you.
