Withdrawal Symptoms Like CRAZY

Hello,

I'm on a lot of psychiatric medications (I think I'm overmedicated).  I was wondering if anyone else ever had crazy withdrawal problems with Ativan (Lorazepam) even if they only skipped one single day?  I do.  Sometimes I'll go to the pharmacy to pick up my Ativan and they'll tell me it's too early to get them again (don't know how that could be), and I don't have it for a day.  Of course, I call my psychiatrist right away to call it in, but he's a procrastinator and often won't do it until the next day.

So anyway, I get what I think is called Tardive Dyskenesia (sp?).  i read about it on the web, and my therapist mentioned it, but not for this medication.  My mom usually notices that I frown a lot (uncontrollably) in early stages, and I have a tremor.   later on I move my head and limbs uncontrollably (I usually hide in in my bedroom around that time.  Don't want to upset/worry anyone).  It goes away a while after I have taken my Ativan again.

Has anyone else ever had this withdrawal symptom?  I read somewhere that if not treated promptly, it can be permanent.  Is that true?

After experiencing that  about oh... 2 times,. I make darn sure I have an adequate supply of Ativan AND a script with me!

I have adivan to use if I feel an anxiety attach coming on.  I have not taken them often but they are a godsend to me.  I would imagine you can get addicted to them and maybe that is what you are dealing with?  Your body is so use to the adivan and is now calling out for it, and if you don't get it your symptoms get worse. ???

Just a thought :)

This may not be the best advice, but if I were you hun, I'd get myself to a different Doctor/Psychiatrist.  The fact that you even think you may be over medicated, is a horrible thought.  But in this day and age, it seems to be quite the common practice.  It really would not hurt to get a second opinion from a different doctor.  Maybe you are being over medicated and a new doctor can help you with stepping down off the drugs that aren't so needed.  Maybe the new Doctor would suggest different medications for what your problems could be, and you'd feel better, and not so medicated.

Just my thoughts.  I hope you start feeling better.

Mrs. Lovett,

I looked up the words on the bar on top of my computer.  It can't be too pleasant.  Does it strike often?  Do you have any warning?  Talk to your Dr. about changing your anti-psychotic meds and maybe putting you on high doses of vitamins.  There is a ton of info on this on the computer. I take an anti depressant but only in the last two years.  I find it has been a life saver. From what I read on this it is caused by older anti-psychotics.  I have a son who takes the same anti-depressant as me, zoloft, and he is lost without it.  The pharmacies are right to limit our prescriptions.  You don't want to o.d. on this stuff.  My pharmacy is the same way.  I think you may need to find a new therapist. One she may be overmedicating you and two, she isn't calling in your scrips when you need them.  Sounds a bit unhealthy to me.  thank you for educating me about something new today.  good luck.  Bobbie

Mrs Lovett, I am taking Ativan, generic lorazepam, for Panic Attacks. I was on two other

meds before this one an I do not have a problem with it. I take three a day an had the

dosage upped the week before X.mas because it was getting overwhelming for me to

deal with. My doctor told me that it wouldn't hurt if I missed a dose, that it was safe

for me an not to pay attention to all the side effects that I read about an was terrified

of. All meds have side effects an if this one is giving you problems, tell your doctor

an find one that works for your problem. There is never a shortage of medications,

that's for sure. Hope this helped!       Sludge

Wow I so agree you d not want to ween yourself off any meds. And don't take more than you need. I know sometimes they need to try different meds when what you are taking is not working for you,I can not beleive a doc would not call your script in on time.Shame on them.

Some times it takes an hr to show up on sight but it sends an email right away. God Luck with your meds and doc Smile

There are always withdrawal symtoms from any kind of psychotic meds. Don't ever let anyone tell you different. continue looking on the internet for the withdrawals and subtitute meds. stay in closed contact with your doctors.

If the doctor you have is over medicating you switch immeditly. You must be comfortable with your doctor in order for the meds to work properly. Good luck.
