Sheri1969's photos : Highway of Heroes

The stretch of 401 between Port Hope and Toronto was renamed THE HIGHWAY OF HEROES because all the servicemen and women who have died since the 9/11 war started overseas, all have to come the same stretch of highway before reaching their final resting place. It has become tradition for people in the various cities who have bridges over this highway to hold flags, service people salute, etc. I was on my way home from a doctors office going one when when the convoy of yet another 5 dead soldiers was coming toward us on the opposite side of the highway. I started to tear up and I cried as each car passed. My heart literally felt pain as I thought of these young people who had their entire lives ahead of them, but chose instead to fight for our freedom here in Canada. I can only say that I am glad my grandparents are not around to watch these processions. For if they were alive, it would kill them, having fought in WW2. Thank you to all our soldiers at home, and throughout the world. May God bless you and your family for your service, and ultimate sacrifice, in many cases.
