My name is Cara, and I have been practicing the 17 day diet since April 16, 2012. I am still getting through Cycle 1. After I got done with the first week, I noticed great results on the scale and noticed having lost close to 7 pounds. I am close to finishing my second week, and I weighed myself last night only to find I have gained 3 of those 7 lost, back. Now, the scale shows I have only lost 4 pounds on cycle 1. I certainly don't feel any lighter, nor do I look it. My clothes still fit me just as tightly as they did the day I started this diet. I can hardly button my pants still! When will I notice some physical change and where will it appear first? In my face? In my gut? In my waist?
I read other people's posts all the time and find that so many people cheat here and there by having a Hershey's Kiss or a little bit of rice with their sushi. I can safely say I have not cheated a single time. I don't even eat light salad dressings. I strictly have oil and vinegar with every salad, and I make sure to measure out the serving. I have also gone the extra mile and worked out every day I have been on this diet aside from one. I just don't understand what I am doing wrong. I am slightly confused and wondering if I am not eating enough yogurt. I read through some of the meal plans suggested in the book and consistently noticed each day that only one serving of yogurt was on the menu. Should I be eating two yogurts every day?? People are acting like you must get two servings of a probiotic each day. I do have egg whites almost every morning. Is this counting as a portion of a probiotic? I am confused because when I look at the sample daily menus in the book, not all of them say you have to have more than one yogurt serving each day.
I am thinking I am not drinking my water as consistently as I was that first week too. I have decided to work really hard on that until the end of my first cycle. It is only 10:30AM here in Cincinnati and I have already drank two bottles of water, my hot lemon juice and my breakfast green tea for today. Needless to say, I can't stop going to the bathroom! Hopefully this gets me back on the right track. Unfortunately, that hot lemon juice and green tea don't count towards my daily water intake....grrrrrrrrr.
One thing I wanted to ask was about the green tea. I am currently drinking Crystal Light green tea packets-the ones you add to your water bottle. Is this not going to work for me?? I have had some plain green tea, and I struggle to choke it down cause I am not much of a tea fan to begin with. The Crystal Light green tea I have been drinking with each meal is flavored, usually raspberry or peach. Is this what is causing my issue? If so, does anyone have any suggestions on types of green tea they like? I cannot do the hot thing. It has to be something I can drink on ice or cold. I am not much of a hot beverage type of gal. I don't like coffee or hot drinks. It is a struggle for me to choke down my hot lemon juice every morning.
Any advice anyone might have would be greatly appreciated as I am on the brink of tears over here.
Thanks for your support. Even though I am not where I would ideally like to be, I still have the will power to struggle through. My mind and my determination will not let me cheat.

Was wondering do you have PMS now? Have you had your thyroid checked? Are you drinking all the water?
About the yogurt, it is recommended that you have 2 probiotics a day, and the list of acceptable ones is listed in the book. One of them is yogurt. If you want to make both probiotics yogurt, then you can eat 2 yogurts a day.
The hot lemon juice does count toward your daily total water intake.
I am assuming the crystal light green tea is sugar-free, so that shouldn't be the problem. Just watch out for the chemicals it is made of. Can you make the hot green tea and put it in the refigerator to make it cooled down, and if you want squeeze some lemon in it to flavor it or whatever. Could you drink it that way?
Melissa.
Melisa,
Thanks for reading my post and commenting back. No, I don't currently have PMS. I have never had my thyroid checked.......maybe I should look into that. Like I said, I was doing really good with the water at first, but I have been struggling lately. I am making sure to get back on that now though.
I will make sure to have two probiotics instead of just one. I just don't understand why each daily meal plan example in the book doesn't show two probiotics. I am just trying to follow the food plans in the book so I know I am always on track.
Good to know the hot water is part of my daily water intake.
I could try making the hot green tea and putting it in the fridge. I have actually used the green tea bags and let it seep in a glass of cold water-it just didn't taste very good. I even added a little guava/truvia. I don't know what it is. I just don't have a taste for tea.I may branch out there and see if there is any other green tea brands in the juice aisle. I think Lipton has some green tea I may give a whirl.
Thanks for reading my post. I am still trying and any tips are much appreciated!
I just started drinking green tea recently...one that tastes good and not too green-tea-ish is Celestial Seasonings Green and White Tea blend. Make sure you don't steep green tea too long, just 2-3 mins in non-boiling hot water, or per box instruction--or else it becomes bitter tasting.
Also you can squeeze lemon into your green tea...that would be extra antioxidants per cup!
Are you putting the lemon peel in your hot lemon water? That can make it taste bad, I've done that before. I prefer warmish lemon water with not too much lemon squeezed in there...has a nice, tolerable taste.
Greenfish,
I had not heard of that type of Green Tea. I will look for it at the store.
No, I am not putting the lemon peel in my lemon water in the mornings, just a cup of hot water and half a lemon squeezed into it. It is getting better but still isn't my favorite thing.
Thanks for your tip!
Also wanted to add that I don't weigh myself anymore...I was getting obsessed with each pound, I had to quit weighing myself...but your sudden small weight gain could be excess water weight (maybe your period is coming soon or you ate a lot of foods with sodium), ***Water weight can fluctuate 5-10 lbs*** (Eating lots of foods with high potassium content can flush out the sodium and reduce water weight, also drinking about 8 cups of water a day)
Or you could have gained muscle if you are doing strength training, and muscle weighs more than fat...
I'm not on the 17 day diet...but I just checked out the book at the library to see what it's all about...I'd like to lose 5-10 lbs...but again, I don't want to obsess about it!
I agree with Greenfish ... i dont weigh myself at all, unless the hospital or DR office has to, but that isn't often.
Melissa.
