Hi gang!
My wife was bitten by what we belive was a spider last Tuesday, July 21, 2009. I say "belive" because she didn't feel anything biting her. She noticed a burning/hurting sensation on the right side of her neck right on the curve, going from back to the side.. I looked @ it & could not see anything but a couple of small "pin hole sized bites" it was not swollen, or red. Tuesday night it got worse & by Wed. nite it had turned red & was burning like a blister & her neck was beginning to swell. She started sweating OR freezing, just could'nt get comfortable. In photo-1 below which was taken Wed. nite you can see the entire area where she was bitten which measured 2-1/2" high & 1" wide. I counted about 8-small bites inside the red area. Thursday morning the red was puffy & it had even more bites visible. My wfe was complaining of severe muscle Tightness, and tiredness and No Appetite what-so-ever! By Monday of this week I re-counted the bites & came up with 21 bites. Does anyone have ANY IDEA what kind of Spider this may have been, and what we can expect next? She HAS took a Round of "Bactrum" (not sure of that Spelling but do know it's an antibiotic),and the Bites are now starting to dry out,and getting covered over in a Black looking scab. DOES anyone have ANY IDEA what this may have been that bit her & just how toxic it was. Below are two photos, The 1st one is of the 2nd. day after it happened, & photo 2 shows how the area has cleared up since last week. Photo 2 was taken today, July 31, 2009.

Looks like shingles to me.
In another post I mentioned my recent bug bites, resulting in cellulitis. My first experience came from a fire ant bite, which I can get all the time where I live. Often I scratch them. For some reason this time, the scratching resulted in a terrible rash, worse than your picture. I'm not able to take Bactrim, atlho that was the first choice the dermatologist offered. I thought the second bite was from a mosquito bite. After a couple of hours, the bite was only a bit larger than an inch and not red. Within 12 hours it was hurting, itching, inflammed, and 6" in length and 4" across. Because I knew what was happening I went to an urgent care center within 14 hours of the bite and it never got as bad as my first experience. That night I SAW the spider, as I was sitting on the same sofa and it bit me again (or it was another one.) Unfortunately I squished it while trying to capture it in a small jar. I looked on the internet to find a picture but didn't find anything like it. But it was tiny and light in color, no larger than 3/16" inch in diameter. The bite felt like a mosquito. I probably brought it into the house when I brought in cut roses from my backyard. (see my 2nd comment for more)
cellulitis contd...The day of the first bite I also had a cut on my index finger, and I worried about the skin puncture since I had the first incidence of cellulitis just a few weeks earlier and knew it was bad to have an open wound. That cut never became infected, so it tells me that the bugs inject something that makes it worse or it allows skin bacteria to be injected further. I am surprised at the little bitty spider being able to do that, as the finger cut appeared deep enough!
I'm now nervous every time I want to scratch something, because I scratched the fire ant bite and I also scratched (very briefly) the spider bite, which I first thought was a mosquito bite. We scratch lots of things during a day without thinking about it. Now, I'll put an antibiotic cream on ANY bite or scratch or puncture. Ask your doctor for an antibiotic prescription for that "preventative" help to avoid the next incidence.
Hope you're feeling better with the Bactrim. Be watchful of future bites.
I don't want to freak you out, but you should get these checked again if she did not see the spider bite her or feel it bite her because a lot of times what people mistake for spiders bite are actually localized MRSA infections. I know because I had the same thing. I thought I had been bitten and I actually had MRSA. I had to take a lot of medication once it was properly diagnosed but I was ok the thing is it has to be properly diagnosed.

Hi All,
Well, she is all healed up now! It took 2 week's,and 2 Prescriptions of Bactrim but the Doctor said It Was A Spider bite.
She lost around 10 Pds. in the process. But she say's the WORST PART was going from Freezing cold to Pouring sweat every 10 Min. for 2 week's!
She never had anything as far as itching, but there was a Lot Of Heat that came with swelling & Muscle Pain all in her neck. Now "she is on 3 Ensures a day trying to get back to her Normal weight of 103-105 pds.
SURE WISHED I could lose weight, she has alway's had a Problem gaining weight!lol
