Almost exactly 3 years ago, I started noticing a blind spot in my vision and my eyesight would also darken (just a little) every-once-in-a-while. I did have migraine headaches with an aura about 4 times in my life and thought that maybe I was getting migraines again. I was really scared and finally went to the ER. The ER doctor performed a CAT scan that came back normal and he diagnosed me with migraine headaches. I knew this was wrong, but went home and tried to get on with my life. My symptoms did not subside, but they did not worsen. Thank goodness I had a friend with a father who was an opthamologist. She told me to go see her father. During my first visit, I was diagnosed with papilledema and a swollen optic nerve. I was never so afraid in my life. I was tranferred to a neurologist and was tested for psuedotumor cerebri. (I was 50 lbs overweight at the time) I had a normal spinal tap initial reading and MRI. They could not figure out what caused it, but I truly believe I do have tendencies toward cranial pressure especially around my period. I then was sent to a neuropthamalogist, but got no more information from him. I was given several field vision tests that show my left eye does have a larger blind spot than the right. Today, my papilledema is gone and my optic nerve is normal. I still have a blind spot, but it doesn’t bother me as much as it did. I lost about 60 lbs due to this scare and have dedicated myself to a healthy lifestyle. I actually just had an eye exam and was told that my optic nerve still looks “unhealthy” (not as pink as it should be) and the doctor could tell that there had been some trauma. I wish I had more answers and I really hope I never have to go through this again. Dr. Jim, you are in my prayers. YOu are the first person I have “known” that can relate to this. I truly hope you find out what the cause is and that you share it with us. I would love more information too. Hang in there!

About a year ago I was diagnosed with a brain stem tumor and was asked start seeing a nuero opthamologist tomake sure my vision was ok and there was no pressure on my optic nerve. Well turns out I was diagnosed with papilledema and a swollen optic nerves, I have had to stay on diamox to lower the pressure in addition to the surgery for the pressure. My eyes looked a little different than the Dr’s but I know how stressful that news can be. I am only 25 and have been going through this for about one year now and things have gotten better for me. My prays are with the dr and hisa family.

Since the programs are probably pre-taped and then aired according to a schedule, I am wondering how long ago was it that Dr. Sears had this exam and news, as well as if he’s had his follow-up CT and MRI. I am sure that he probably has and I’m really anxious about the results. Though he is a television personality that we all tune-in to see for answers and just to gage how our parenting is doing, he has become a friendly face to the viewers. Since I have watched Jim’s father Dr. Sears, Sr. on other programs, I feel very strongly compelled to pray for the entire Sear’s family and hope for a good report. I just would like to see the report sooner than later. I think all of us are maybe a little on edge at this point with regard to wanting a conclusion episode.
Though a brave face was slapped onto the results during the filming of this particular episode, I could see the concern cloud over Jim a few times and as a result am praying for peace and a settling in his spirit with that peace anytime someone tries to bring about negativity or anything that would cause him to be more than concerned. I am also praying for those medical professionals working with Dr. Sear’s to have a dose of extra wisdom and discernment appointed by God in helping him since he and his father are such a help to others.
I am firm believer that what comes around goes around, the universal law of reciprocity – that you reap what you have sewn and both he and his father have sewn much into the lives of others. I want for them both to reap great reward.

My 21 yr. old daughter was on her way home one night and called me saying she was seeing double out of her left eye.But if she closed her eye she could see out of the right just fine.I had to keep pestering her to get her eyes checked. She finally went a week later and the Eye Dr. immediatly sent her to another Dr. and then the same evening she was sent to another Dr. as they all saw something behind her left eye and thought it was a tumor. This all happened in March 2009,now June 5th,she has had 4 spinal taps and 1 blood patch. The pressure would increase with each spinal tap,and the headaches were so severe, she would have to be addmitted to the hospital 2 different times for 4 days each. Finally after seeing 4 Neurologists in here las vegas they did a spinal shunt, she still has the headaches daily, the diamox does not work on her,she takes 1500 mg. daily and nothing, the pressure kept rising. She has a few blind spots in the left eye and they think it is showing up now in the right eye.She has a 2 year old daughter and a job she is on the verge of losing from having to take off work so often. They now have her on 3 medications for the headaches that cause her to fall asleep after taking them, and they said to take these 3 times a day.She has not taken them since the first day. They want her to come back to the Dr. in 6 weeks to see how she is doing. They said they are now in the troubleshooting stage to see what is going on and to fix the symtoms. Is there any hope for this condition ???
