Thank you. You are the firsts person who has ever acknowledged that it’s ‘because’ of Mother’s death from breast cancer (diagnosed at 38, died at 40) that I fear and avoid mammograms. I just had one a couple of weeks ago, but I avoid them like crazy!

You have validated my fear – most people are just shocked – “Well, you KNOW you need it more than most – why haven’t you had one lately?”

Thank you, thank you!!

BTW – That doesn’t mean I don’t have them – I just don’t have them so often as I know I should – and I was past 45 before I had my first one.

Note to self: It’s time for me to get one. My great-grandmother died from leukemia and breast cancer. Since then, there have been women in our family who have battled with breast cancer and some of them more than once. There are also those that are taking preventative medication “just in case” it should visit them with a family history. Both my mother and myself have not had any concern, however, as a result of breast cancer being so close to home we are pretty good about getting mammograms. Time to call my OB GYN, it’s that time of year.

Lisabethk and Norey,

You missed the point. These were tests to save peoples lives as was the breast exam of Dr. Lisa. I made an earlier post that just pointed out her exam was done with dignity and respect, no laughing or joking. A prostate exam is something men don’t look forward too, but to make light of it and poke fun on National television dosn’t exactly set the stage for men to want to take care of their health. My only point is it is a serious test to help save men’s lives and deserved the same respect, no laughing, or giggling or poking fun. Lisabethk, you found the segment funny, did you think the same of the breast exam, I didn’t. Why was one test dignified and the other something to laugh and poke fun at, my only point.

Thank you,
Lefteddie

This is in reply to lisabeth but was again, removed. I’ll try just for kicks, as I’m sure it’s in vain…

actually…they removed my post. It’s rather clever how they do it. If you look at the message boards while you’re logged in…it’s there. I went back to see later, not signing in and it wasn’t there. That ‘you’ don’t see it either lisabeth, is proof.

Anyway…this is what I had said….

I felt saddened by the show on the 9th…the joke made about ‘looking for the mans brains’ while a test was being given. The reason? If anyone is subjecting themselves to such an invasive test, they’re already unnerved. But to hear such insensitive joking at such a time is not only humiliating, but rather unprofessional. I know and love a man that refuses to go for routine tests for fear of such things…and until that show, I felt it was unfounded. I’m dismayed that it was allowed on the telecast. If a male doctor had made a comment about a female, it would have been cause for outrage. I’m writing in the hope that someone will stop and think about the insecurities we hold…and how a little compassion…a little professionalism…would serve to make everyone more willing to have tests that indeed, might just save their lives.

Thank you for showing the test that can save your life.  Just a comment on Mamograms.  Unfortunatley, the do not pick up everything.  I had Invasive Lobular Carsinom and LCIS.  An Ultrasound is what detected the cancer.  It was dected early and I have a great prognosis.  I’m greatful to have had access to both a mamogram and ultrasound.

Everyone, this is something I’m sending to Dr. Lisa..

Dear Dr. Lisa,
Thank you for saving my life. You inspired me to go for my mammography, which my GYN had been ‘bugging’ me about for 2+ years. I went in late June. After 2 mammographies, stereotatic biopsy, I found out on July 22nd that I have a very early stage of breast cancer! My prognosis looks very good because they found it so early. Luckily, it was a digital vs. analog mammography. (Analog might not have picked it up.) Seeing the way you were about getting tested, made me realize that no matter what, we all really need to.
I and my family can’t thank you enough! What more can I say, but GREAT SHOW!
