My husband hunts and we eat a lot of venison. We usually are able to go most of the year substituting any beef meals with venison, including spaghetti, hamburgers, chili, etc. I rarely hear venison mentioned as a healthy alternative, but have been told that it is leaner than even sirloin. Is this true or have I been misinformed? If it is true, why isn’t venison mentioned more often when discussing healthier alternatives? Thanks, Amy

Yes, venison is very lean. You can tell that by having to add oil to cook it or it will stick to the pan. They don’t mention it as an alternative because they aren’t hunters and they don’t think of it as a possibility. You can’t just go to the grocery or a health food store and buy wild meats can you? You can’t where I live anyway. If you want the wild game, you have to go hunt it yourself or have a friend that hunts and shares it with you. Therefore, they don’t include game in their nutritional studies.
