I am a Mommy of two girls. One now 29 mo and the other 5 mo. I have learned with my 29 mo old who has been potty trained for over month now that I really needed to listen to what she was telling me. At about 18 mo she started to take her diaper off everytime she peed. I would go over and put another one on. She would pee and take it off. Whie we were home I decided to buy a potty and let her run around in dresses but no underware. She on her own used her little potty and came and got me to show me. I was so excited and made a huge deal and you could see how proud her was.
The one mistake that I did do was buy pull-ups. She used them as if they were diapers and didn’t understand the difference. I stopped using them and bought trainging cloth underware and she responded wonderfully!! Don’t get me wrong, accidents did still happen.
I would still put her to bed in a diaper but at the end of 26mo she started taking them off at night and I would find a naked little girl in the morning. She would never be wet, thank god. Then she would start taking them off right after we walked out the door from putting her to bed at night. At that point I went to the training underware at night as well. Now she is completely potty trained and in regular underware and loving it!!
The whole point is to listen to your child. They will let you know what they want. There will be bumps in the road but they will just help her/him to learn. As I learned, fighting it only made it worse!!
