I started the 17 DD in February of 2011. I lost 30+ pounds and have been doing great but I have gone out of bounds more often than I should this summer. I have let 14 pounds from my lowest weight of 176. Honestly my weight around 181-183 is probably where I need to be but this morning I weighed in at 190. After doing my own version of how to eat (a plan that wasn’t going all that well) I recommitted this morning to getting back on track. I plan to do 17 days of Cycle 1 with no weekend cheats or treats. After 17 days, I will see where I am and then adjust from there. I’m posting to keep myself honest so feel free to let me have it if I don’t post or start free lancing.
For those who are on here for Cycle 1 for the first time, it absolutely works. The “upside” to my post is that it does work and I have been much slimmer for 17 months now. The plan works and takes into account those times in y our life where a pound or 7 slips back on. Back on Cycle 1!

Day 2 of Cycle One Re-do. I weighed in this morning at 186. There is no way I lost four pounds of fat in one day. I would venture to say I was holding a lot of water from eating higher carbs/processed foods. Based on the past, I will probably stay at this weight for several days before extra fat starts to get used up.

Day 3. 184 this morning. I turn 56 tomorrow and I do want to be under 185 on my birthday.

Askoolbeacher, You made your bday goal weight, congrats.
I also have been on this diet for over a year.. I gained back 6 lbs and am struggling to lose them.
Advise for anyone starting this diet.. dont cheat, once you do its so easy to keep cheating. Once you hit your goal weight make sure you weigh yourself daily, dont let things get out of control!

Congrats Askoolbeacher! I’m glad to see you are taking care of your health. Just think, you are reducing your chance of disease and increasing your longevity! Happy B-day!
Hey JuneE, I completed Cycles1-3 (wanted to lose those last 10 or so pounds)…I’m just shy of my goal weight by 5lbs. I finished Cycle 3 about a month ago and I have maintained my current weight loss to the T! I’m so proud of myself…I didn’t let things get out of control. I’ve just been following the maintenance part of the 17DD until I decide which cycle to start again. Any suggestions???

GreenFish. If you can handle cycle 1 again I say go that route but its so hard to do cycle one after doing cycle 2 and 3. I am trying to do cycling one but mixing it a little with cycle 2. I have about 10 or so lbs to go too, need to finish losing the 6 i gained and then some.

Thanks GreenFish and JuneE. The support is truly appreciated. I weighed in again at 184 this morning, so color me happy! My wife and I are going out for dinner tonight but while I do anticipate a yummy dinner, it will be on program. We will do the birthday cake thing when the kids are around (all three adult kids, married with kiddos) and things are going on in their lives right now.
While I am glad to be under 185, my long term goal is to get a couple pounds lower (not 10, just 2) and hold that weight for 3 weeks. If I get my set point there and hold it there, I tend to do better.
I agree with June, GreenFish, in terms of Cycle 1. 17 days is a bit daunting but its about the right period of time to establish good habits. Those last 5 pounds will surely be gone in 2 and a half weeks.

Thanks JuneE, I was leaning that way. The problem is I have a bunch of avocados (eight!) sitting on my kitchen counter…I’m an avocadoholic! During my maintenance, I was eating one avocado every day, or one avocado every two days. Maybe I’ll do cycle 1 and on days that I finish off my avocados, I’ll do extra exercise! Just until they’re gone. Thanks. Good luck with the 6 lbs. We can do it!!!
Askoolbeacher, a key to my maintenance was loosely counting the days calories, every day keeping track, then weighing myself weekly to see if my weight stayed the same. I realized that for my height and weight, I can maintain my weight at around 1700-2000 cals….I’m 5 foot zero and weigh 110! So your daily maintenance calorie intake will be more than me!

I too began the 17DD program back in January of 2011. I lost 30 pounds and maintained my weight with diet and exercise until April 2012. I had surgery and was unable to do any exercise for six weeks then I had another surgery and again six weeks with no exercise. Needless to say, I wasn’t being very careful about what I ate and have gained 15 pounds. I’m addition, I have almost no muscle tone. So, I restarted the 17DD two days ago. My start weight was 132. My new goal weight is 115. On today, day three, I’m 130.5 pounds. I began walking two miles a day when I started this two days ago. The surgery was on my right hand so I can’t do any weight baring exercises. Therefore, walking is the best option for now. I look forward to reading the progress of the rest of you and hope to draw the same encouragement that I did last go at this diet and in turn, I hope that I can be encouraging to others. good luck to all.

Hey cluehunter,
Glad to hear you’re down 1.5lbs in 3 days! You are giving me the inspiration I need to get out there and walk! I got a pedometer weeks ago, but haven’t put it to use…yet. I just heard on the news this morning that a study came out and said that no exercise is as bad as smoking. This should really give me the motivation to get out there and move. I’ve been maintaining my weight this past month, which is a good thing, but I haven’t been exercising at all.

Today is the start of cycle 1 day 4. Lost another full pound as of this morning. I’m at 2.5 loss and weigh 129.5. Walked two miles yesterday in about 30 minutes. Will plan to bump that up a bit here real soon but have been at least moving a a bit each day. I forgot how much I love a fresh green salad until I bite into it each day. I really do love the food on this program. Don’t know how I ended up straying away from it.

hey everyone, So I completly came off the diet and indulged in everything I could put my hands on. Had to stop running because my knee was acting up. The good news being I am still around 157 and have just started back up on cycle 1 again today. The only problem is that I am camping so I have no scales till tomorrow. I feel like garbage off the diet. I notice all the un natural foods I am putting in my body. Im so happy to be eating well again. Hope you all are doing well and you will be hearing from me again soon.

Hello, new to this site. I’m on day 8 of the 1st cycle, lost 4lbs. A little disappointed, as I do a run/walk of 2-3 miles daily, and expected more of a lost. I also yo yo’d 2x during those 8 days gaining back .8lbs. Really sticking to rules, except not so much green tea, (hindering my ablility to go bathroom).
Anyone else have problems gaining back a little during this cycle?

Good to hear from you slimsoon, and that you are getting back on track. Before indulging in “garbage” as you say, ask yourself, “How is this going to make me feel?” I do that a lot when I’m tempted to eat sweets, and it works every time. I answer, “Sluggish, lethargic, in pain (I have muscle spasms in my back!) and fat!” I’m on day 3 of Cycle 1, repeating again to reach my goal weight.

Ladyleo3, have you tried changing up your routine and “tricking” your body with different types of workouts? I recently heard a fitness trainer give that advice. Also, there have been studies that said that green tea helped people keep weight OFF, so maybe rethink your green tea drinking…
I lost the most weight when I started Cycle 1 for the first time in the spring. Cycle 2 I lost a tad. When I did Cycle 3, I didn’t lose ANY weight. So I would try to figure out what’s going on now so you can start seeing results as you get to the other cycles.

Well I’m back. Cycle 1 day 7. The bad news is I haven’t lost any weight in three days. The good news is that I haven’t gained any either. My niece was married this weekend and I was so busy that I was unable to exercise. I had rehearsal dinner, lunch in the bridal dressing room, and dinner at the wedding, none of which offered the greatest of choices. I ate salad when it was available and salmon at rehearsal but other meals weren’t as diet friendly. So, this morning, I am excited to be back on the plan and hope to see movement on the scales again soon. I don’t usually cheat on my diet and didn’t plan the timing on starting very well this time. But if we look for a good time to start, odds are we’ll never start, right. So, here we go, let’s lose some weight.

Ladyleo, I had the same problem as you so with the green tea.. I stopped drinking it a few weeks after I started the diet. I went on to lose 50lbs so I dont think it hurt me to not drink it.

so yesterday I managed to get to a scale and yup I was 160.o on the dot. Today is day two of cycle one and I am currently 157.8 lbs. I guess I was retaining alot of water since everything I ate was sugar and carbs….and salt. I know im not the same slim 157 lb I was a month ago. Must of lost alot of muscle and gained alot of fat lol. I had to stop running because of a knee injury. Hope everyone is doing well today and staying on track. Happy losing!!!
