Cycle 3, morning of Day 10……15.5 lbs as of yesterday, then the scale went up .5 lbs today.  Cycle 2 and 3 have been that way for me….steady or up .5 down .5 and yesterday down 1.5 lb.   Happy with progress so far and just finished making another batch of “Power Cookies”.  Smells so good in the house and good tasting too!  Diane

You are doing great at day 5!  About day 6 it got easier for me (my cravings went away).  Keep doing the 17dd and the weight will keep coming off.

Love this site because we are all doing this diet….therefore, I feel we understand each other in a unique way.   And, yes like you, it motivates me to read the other posts; not just those that are doing so well, but also those that have a “blip on the 17dd” and get back on board!  I also look forward to posting my weight loss progress and to encourage others, too!  The whole atmosphere here is so helpful and positive!  Diane

c1d9 and I am still holding at 6 pounds form d4. But i realized that I was only get about 800 to 900 calories the last few days. Made a mid night trip to the store for more calories last night so I am really hoping that will change. I need the motivation of another pound soon…  =)

6 pounds on day 4 sounds amazing to me.  Way to go!!!   I did a total of 9 in cycle 1.

Yes, I had the same “problem” with low calories in cycle 1 and was in the ranges you mention.  Many, many people have posted those same calories you are posting for cycle 1.  The book says NOT to count calories, just keep eating everything it says, use the fullness meter, etc.  (I figured the low starting calories is what triggered my weight to finally move downward after trying everything esle before the 17dd….lol).  I just was not hungry on cycle 1 and never felt starved.  If you are hungry feeling or wanting to assure you get the 1200 calories then add whatever you need within the foods allowed and it should be good for you.

That said, some on this site are stating you MUST have 1200 caloreis minimum or you go to “starvation” mode.  I agree that after cycle 1 that could really happen if you kept on at very low daily amounts.  In cycle 2 every other day you are supposed to up diet with carbs (which add calories) and the book is saying the up/down days of cycle 2 tricks your metabolism etc. (which I took to mean it keeps you from going into the starvation mode?)  By cycle 3 you have those carbs added every day plus the other meat choices etc….it all adds up….so now I hit very close to and sometimes above the 1200 every day in cycle 3.  (yesterday was over 1400)

You will have to decide for yourself what level of calories is best for you in each cycle.  Every “body” is different, age, activity level, bone structure, height, beginning weight, how much you need to lose…..there is such a wide range amoung us on this site.   Good luck to you and keep posting your progress, Diane

Thank you Diane! I am just really tired of eating all day long..lol You have a good point with all that you said. I know I am on medicine that causes me weight problems. I just want to make sure I do this right because I have tried everything else. Thanks for your thoughts!!! And good luck to you also =)

You are soooo right….some medicines can make a huge difference on weight gain!!  Not knowing what medicine you refer to or why you are on it…..it might be good to discuss the calorie issues you are concerned about and this diet with your doctor?

Every time I have been prescribed prednisone I devour everything in site and am constantly hungry.  Think my NSAID’s (for connective tissue disorder) also trigger eating urges.

A few days ago I used my “Flonase” for allergies.  I had not used it since just prior to starting the 17dd.   That same night I had to eat scrambled eggs for a snack because I was feeling “starved” about 9:00 and even the yogurt did not help that feeling.  I couldn’t understand what that was about but yesterday made the connection as I was thinking to use the Flonase again….and decided to go without it.  I am thinking of asking my doctor about trying something different for this fall allergy season to see if I can avoid constant hungry feelings starting again and subsequent weight gain!

Every day, I take one of each: “mature” multivitamin, B stress complex, B12, biotin, selenium, magnesium, calcium, Vit D3, COQ10, and E…..or at least every day I am home at noon and remember…lol.   Lucky me….I am not on any Rx drugs now, except  “as needed”  for allergies or joint pain.  Hoping (at age 64) to keep as healthy as possible to avoid Rx’s for many years to come!

At age 35, I started with a good multivitamin and the B vitamins because they were highly recommended by my rheumatologist…..way back then even!  Over the years with additional reading/study I have added more to my list.  I do not mega dose…..just one of each daily.  Diane

I had a blood work up done and my Dr pointed out that I was negative on Vitamin D. So I had an injection and a prescription for 6 days on a strong dose. Then I started loosing weight. So medicine & health can always be an issue. Talk to your Dr is good advice.  I am a slow looser and never compare myself to others. I am close to my 110 goal and waiver between 115.4 * 115.8 and that is the way it is. It might take a year to get to 110 and lots of C1 cycles but I am sticking with it! Don’t cave, just keep up the fight. Make sure you are eating healthy and taking a vitamin and with the appropriate medical tests that you are not lacking something important.

OK, first the good news, the proposal went beautifully.  My daughter is now engaged to a wonderful young man!

On the down side, I’ve been working so hard to lose weight so I’d look good in the family photos following the proposal.  In the last week along, I exercised ( a lot) every day, didn’t cheat a bit and actually lost an additional 8 lbs.  However, when I look at the photos this morning, I’m still the fat toad in the group shots.  I hate how I look.  And I am so depressed and discouraged today.  I’ve tried not to be, but gotta be honest, I am.  Then I keep thinking … maybe I should have worn my black pants instead of white capris … maybe I would have looked thinner in my green blouse rather than my teal sweater … blah, blah, blah.  All I know is that I hate these photos and feel so defeated.  If I look this bad after working soooo hard, how can I ever expect to look good for the wedding????

Sorry I’m such a downer.  But I have to put on a happy face for my daughter.  And I needed somewhere I could vent :(

trishgarlitz, don’t be so hard on yourself. You have done so well so far and just think how much better you will look AT the wedding! Keep your chin up! You are going to look great on your daughter’s big day!

As said by dolphin9600….you have done great and will be even better before the wedding!

You could be looking at it from after the wedding….my daughter got married last summer.  I tried and tried and did not lose more than a couple pounds for the entire winter before she was married. This summer…..late June I started the 17dd and have already lost 15.5 lbs! I look back and think…“I wish I had known about 17dd and started this diet last year before her wedding”.  I hate those pics!!!!  You have a powerful weight loss tool to use that is working!!  So keep it up and amaze yourself and everyone when those wedding pics are taken!!    Good luck to you, Diane

Yes keep up the good work Trishgarlitz and don’t look back, just forward. Find a beautiful dress, wear a smile and all will go just fine! Just don’t CAVE in! We are here for you. Never give up the fight!

Dolphin9600 & azdreamer, thank you so much for your encouragement.  I know that you are right.  And I’m trying to lift myself out of this “funk” that I’m in.   The last two days I’ve been pretty depressed and finding it difficult to motivate myself to do my workout.  Gotta just make myself do it tomorrow whether  feel like it or not.  I know once I get myself moving again, it will get easier.  And I do have a wonderful reason to keep working hard to lose weight.  I’ve gotta look “HOT” for my daughter’s wedding.

Thanks again for helping me keep focused and not give up!

I am finally back to my weight after my vacation/wedding reception.  It took over a week to get back to where I was.  I am so glad I have nothing planned for special events until October, I am just not ready for any of this yet.  As of today I am down 36 lbs yay

End of Cycle 3, round 1……down a total of 15 lbs…..and thrilled with it.

Started Cycle 1, round 2 yesterday.  I had “cravings” for power cookie, for more food etc.  Was actually “hungry” which was sort of new sensation again.  I had extra veggies (cauliflower) when that happened and yogurt after supper.  Managed to not blow it.  One day at a time.  Only hope that I lose at least 10 lbs this cycle?

Wondering what those of you who have done more than one cycle find the second time around?  Do you lose about the same amount as round 1?  Diane

For the most part, after reading posts on this site, it appears people do not lose as much on Cycle 2 & 3.  It is also what the book tells us….weight loss will slow down.  I lost 9 lbs on Cycle 1 and only another 6 lb by the end of the next two cycles.  Total of 15 lb and I am NOT complaining!  At age 64, I have the metabolism of a turtle.

Starting Cycle 1, round 2, day 2 and holding…..hoping in a few days to see the scale go down again as I have been at this weight a few days now!  How much you lose in Cycle 2 & 3 might depend on each person’s beginning weight, how much they want/need to lose, age, activity level…..besides all the metabolism variables between us humans…lol.

Myself, I think it is hardest to lose that first 10 lbs and also tough to lose the very last 10 lbs on any diet I have ever been on previously (I tend to hit plateau).  When I get that far, I am hoping this one will be different!  The first 10 lbs sure were faster than I have ever experienced previously!! So I have hope for the last 10, too…..Diane

I think I lost 6 lbs in C1 R2, lost 10.5 first time around

Thanks Diane!!!

Today is c2d1 and my weight in was 10.5 down! I REALLY wanted 1 more pound to put me in the next set of digits but I will take what I can get and be happy because the last 2 years NOTHING else has made this happen =)

Great JuneE!! Sure hope I can say that round 2!!

Likebefore and June

Looks like I will have my work cut out for me to try to lose the same in round 2 as I did cycle 1, first round.  Might not happen, but as Likebefore said…..NOTHING else has made this happen….so I am sticking with it for the big picture….which for me is another 10 or 15 lbs….and then, maintenance mode.  I hope to hold on to my losses!

June, you know this diet so well and follow it so I trust your experience.   I will try not to be TOO disappointed if I only lose 5 lbs instead of my goal of 9…this round.  I am going to AMP up my exercise this time a bit.  Tape my knee or whatever it takes to go longer on the treadmill.  Finally got a really old TV in basement by the treadmill (it doesn’t get reception/non-digital).  Assuming, I can get some DVD’s to play on it…..that might help the time pass……boring stuff…..treadmills.  Diane

PS: I have been “reading” on the treadmill…..but it sometimes makes me nauseated/dizzy etc.  Not very productive reading to say the least….lol!
