Cycle 1
This is my breakfast some mornings. I do not consider this an original but it adds in other protein for breakfast.
2 egg whites
1/4 c. turkey sausage
1/4 c. mushroom
1/4 c. bell pepper (use frozen)
1/4 c. roasted bell pepper (in jar)
1/4 c. shredded mozarella, fat-free
Over medium heat, heat 1-tbs. oil in small skillet add everything except egg whites and cheese. Saute vegetables and sausage until tender. Stir in egg whites and cook until done. Season to take and sprinkle with cheese. Put in bowl and enjoy.

I agree! I also think as long as for the most part we stick to the list then we are doing good! I will try this..

You can have turkey sausage as long as it isn’t mixed in with pork…

If anyone has a Sams Club, they have these chicken sausages and they come in this fantastic flavor with mutz cheese. Member’s Mark brand

EvelynElaine posted this cycle 1 friendly “sausage” recipe that I bet would make an excellent pinch hit in this recipe, and keep it kosher for cycle 1

Just tried this. Did not have green pepper or sausage. Did have some ground turkey. I used red pepper, onions, tomato, mushrooms, 2 rounded T. turkey(meat not on am menu for C1) & one egg. I had the cheese out but forgot it. added salt & pepper & used the olive oil spray for the oil. I was looking for the ingredients for sausage & sage seems to be the main seasoning. I’m going to buy some sage so I can get the flavor of sausage & see if it makes any difference with meat vs without. Will let you know when I try again. I liked it alot & eating it out of a bowl made a difference, why??? I do no know.

In the 17 day diet book on cycle 1, ground turkey is not on the list but turkey breast is and there are a couple of meals on the sample meal list with ground turkey, i.e.; taco salad, ground turkey patties. What’s the difference in ground turkey sausage other than spices and why couldn’t we have it on Cycle 1 as well?

It’s my guess that ground turkey probably has the fat as well as the meat!

PlayitagainSam the difference is probably that it is processed which is NOT good. A lot of sodium and other garbage thats not good for you. Of course if you make your own you can controll that. I have been doing the 17DD since Jan of this year and I use A LOT of ground turkey. I just make sure it is the turkey breast which is much leaner. Good luck!!!

I just read the book and lean ground turkey is on the list for cycle 1. I just got done writing all the allowable foods down so I would reember them better.

Bearscritter, I was wondering about making my own ground turkey. How do you do it? It must be healthier to grind your own. This bear has never done it before. Thanks!

We have a Kitchenaide Mixer with the grinder attachments. It works great for making your own sausage.

There are some Cycle 1 turkey sausage recipes on here, that ARE cycle 1 safe, and work great for this.

You can make your own turkey sausage and will comply with cycle 1 restrictions. Just use extra lean ground turkey and add dry spices only.
