chicken thighs have fat pockets that you cant see unless you know where they are. This sounds like a great recipe but only with chicken breast to cut down on calories. |

Where do you buy lo-sugar marinara sauce? Is there a specific brand or should I just look at the sugar content. (how much is considered lo-sugar?)
Thanks, Lisa |

I could only find Walden Farms — carried at Sunflower, Sprouts, Whole Foods and some Kroger stores. |

|
How many grams of sugar does it have per serving? |

0 calories, 0 Fat, 0 Sat Fat, 0 Sugar (sweetened with Splenda) |

One problem: the alcohol in the wine will cook off, but the sugar won’t. Also, I would think that using canned sauces is the same as using any condiment…tomato paste is quite high in natural sugar. The sugars in canned tomato products are much more concentrated than in a whole tomato. If you’re concerned about sugar, I think I’d steer clear of this one. Sorry. |

I think I’ll try it, sounds good! Dr. Mike does say that wine may be used in cooking (pg. 65). And I would just be sure to check the sugar content of whatever canned products are used. It’s amazing how much sugar, carbs, etc. can differ from one brand to the next! |

sorry folks, but the alcohol burning off as you cook is a myth. In fact, if you google it, you will find that very, very few dishes does it burn off. As you can see, even after 2 1/2 hours, there is still 5%. And as shown, MUCH more than you believe in normal ‘cooking’. http://homecooking.about.com/library/archive/bl… That would put you into Cycle 3 if you use alcohol. |

|
you should be able to use a cooking wine (red or white) its in the supermarket and ive never been carded when buying it, so it couldnt have alcohol in it………look fo it with the vinegars |

I’ve been making a version of this for years …I think I got it from Cooking light…I use thigh or a combo of breasts. I quickly brown the chicken then it goes in a crock pot w/ 2-3 peppers and a couple of onions, I use red wine or vermouth(which adds great flavor) 8 oz.mushrooms. I don’t add marinara just a couple of small cans of paste or 3/4 of a larger one (save the extra in an ice cube tray…I do that w/ left over wine also) If your concerned w/ the wine you could add a small amount of fat free browth I use a vegan veggie broth sometimes add whatever herbs you like. I serve this on a bed of steamed spinach. |

Ragu makes a light, no sugar added marinara sauce. I got it at my regular grocery store with all the other marinara sauces. |

I start cycle 1 for the first time next Tuesday. Both my husband and I are doing it together. We loved sauteed mushrooms w/ onion and a splash or three of Holland House cooking wine. Would the wine be acceptable in cycle 1? Serving Size 2 Tbsp. (30mL)
