Ok so I find that whenever I try to diet I do really good then suddenly I have these cravings and then my diet goes downhill. So when you get a craving what is the best way for you to kick it? What helps you keep your diet on track?

Hi,

Hope you are doing well. Mentioned problem is not only with you. Here we all face this on several times. There is no option to avoid this situation rather to face it. Best way to kick it to control on our self. Our daily routine depend upon our self so we can control it by our willpower and decisions.

Honestly, what has helped me was to just quit sugar altogether.  I was a sugar addict.  It’s very easy to get caught up in a vicious cycle.  Last year I realized that you really are what you eat.  I was in pain, had an acute muscle spasm episode, was tired, miserable.  Then after hearing and reading about healthy eating from different experts, I decided to give it a try.  In January of this year I cut out sugar, and slowly my pain got better.  I got more energy.  I couldn’t believe it.  So what motivates me now is how I feel.  Now, before I cave in to a sweets craving, I ask myself, How is this going to make me feel?  That does the trick.  I put it down.  In fact, after a few weeks of not eating sugar, I DO NOT CRAVE IT.  Some cravings come back during that time of the month, but I have just a piece of dark chocolate or a coconut ice cream bar that only has agave nectar, no refined sugar.  So…

1.  Decide to quit whatever junk food causes you problems.

2.  Before caving in, ask yourself, “How is this going to make me feel?”  (In pain, for me, maybe depressed, “fat,” zapped of energy, etc)

3.  Realize that the cravings will go away in a few weeks, so hang in there.

4.  Have “healthier” junk food options in case you are really craving big time!  (For me, a handful of mixed nuts, a sweet apple, dark chocolate, coconut ice cream, roasted seaweed instead of chips, etc.)

5.  It’s not will power that got me through it, cuz I ain’t got none!  It’s making the mental decision, not buying the junk food so it’s not in my house, then having healthier options on hand.  Good luck!

Hi johny1.  Try not to buy the food that you want to give up, that way you’re not tempted to add it to your regular meals.  If it’s not in your fridge or cupboards, it’s easier to give it up.  It will be hard in the beginning, but after a while, you won’t even crave it anymore.
