GMO FOODS ARE GENETICALLY ENGINEERED TO RESIST PESTILENCES AND CONTROLL WEED GROWTH. WHAT THEY ARENT TELLING YOU IS THAT THE CHEMICALS THAT ARE USED ARE POISONOUS. DIOXIN WHICH IS A CANCER AGENT AND POISON THAT WAS USED IN VIETNAM WAR TO KILL VEGETATION. THESE FOODS MUST BE AVOIDED AT ALL COST. IF YOU FOLLOW THE GROUP AGENT ORANGE LEGACY ON FACEBOOK WE TALK ABOUT GMO BECAUSE WE HAVE THE CHILDREN FROM THE RESULT OF USING DIOXIN IN VIETNAM. THE GROUND IS STILL HOT THERE AND THEY CANT GROW FOOD. THIS IS WHAT OUR GOVERNMENT HAS ORDERED TO BE USED TO HELP OUR SOLDIERS. PLEASE PLEASE WARN PEOPLE NOT TO EAT THIS FOOD. OUR LIVES ARE AT STAKE AND SO ARE OUR CHILDRENS. LOOK AT OUR CHILDREN AND SEE WHAT DIOXIN HAS DONE TO THEM. THIS IS WHAT THEY ARE USING AGAIN AND NO ONE WILL STOP ITS USE. HELP US PLEASE. |

Dioxins have nothing to do with the genetically engineered crops that are grown. |

Hi Doctors! I was watching your show today (4/20/12) and could not help, but to think of an experience I once had with a Cardiothoractic surgeon. I am a Registered Nurse at a local hospital in Elizabethtown, KY. I had a patient one day, who was 3 days status post CABG surgery. I was checking off my orders when I came across, “LOC”. Immediately, I thought level of consciousness. However, the surgeon meant, “laxative of choice”. WOW! That is a big difference!! Just thought I would share. Abbreviations can be confusing to medical professionals, as well as the general public. Elyse Burnett, RN

TO THOSE CONCERNED—DIOXIN IS MOST CERTAINLY IN GMO FOODS. DONT BE BLIND. THEY PUT PESTICIDES INTO THE PLANTS SO BUGS DONT EAT THE FOOD—NEEDLES TO SAY IF IT IS GOING TO KILL BUGS DONT YOU THINK IT WILL KILL A HUMAN? OF COURSE IT CAN. AND WHEN THEY MIX IN WEED KILLER SO WEEDS DONT GROW THAT IS A VEGETATION KILL. LOOK IN THE STORES FOR ROUND UP, OR WEED BE GONE—SPRAY THIS STUFF IN YOUR YARD AND EVERYTHING IT TOUCHES DIES. ESPECIALLY IN THE AREAS WHERE THERE IS WELL WATER. IT ALL LEACHES INTO THE GROUND AND POISONS PEOPLE. YES THAT IS WHY MORE AND MORE CHILDREN ARE HAVING PROBLEMS. MORE ALLERGIES, MORE BIRTH DEFECTS—-TRUST ME—I HAVE A CHILD WHOM IS A PRODUCT OF DIOXIN. HIS FATHER DIED FROM DIOXIN. IN FACT DIOXIN SITS IN THE FAT CELLS OF YOUR BODY. IF YOU ARE OVERWEIGHT AND GO TO LOSE WEIGHT YOU WILL LOSE WEIGHT SO MUCH IT WILL KILL YOU. I HAVE SEEN IT WITH MY OWN EYES. I HAVE LOST MY HUSBAND TO THIS KIND OF POISONING. IT IS A SAD THING TO WATCH SOMEONE DIE A SLOW PAINFUL DEATH. YOU WANT TO EAT IT—-GO RIGHT AHEAD. IF IT IS SUCH A GOOD THING THEN WHY ARE THERE SO MANY FOREIGN COUNTRIES THAT REFUSE THE GMO FOODS. ? |

No, dioxins are not put into genetically engineered crops, nor are the pesticides that are sprayed on them contaminated with anything more than trace amounts of them. In fact, the pesticides that people commonly claim have trace amounts of dioxins are not the ones that are sprayed on these crops. People do not spray agent orange on crops – and the herbicide that was contaminated with dioxins in agent orange has been banned completely. I’m sorry to hear that you and those you love have suffered from these chemicals, but that does not establish that what you are claiming about genetic engineering is correct. “trust me” is not evidence.

YOU NEED TO DO MORE RESEARCH. IN FACT WHEN THE FARMER HAS GMO VEGETABLES AND THE COWS EAT THE CORN OR PIGS EAT THE CORN THEY ALSO ARE FILLED WITH THIS GARBAGE.YOU CAN BET MY FAMILY DOES NOT EAT GMO FOODS—WE ARE VERY CAREFUL SO AS NOT TO HAVE IT—-IF THE FOREIGN COUNTRIES DONT WANT IT—WOULDNT THAT MAKE YOU WONDER WHY NOT??? CAUSE IT POISONS PEOPLE. |

Hey, do you see that key on your keyboard that is just to the left of the “A”? That’s the CAPSLOCK, please turn it off. GE foods are not poisonous, and the international politics of GE crops is complicated. There are also a large number of countries that have approved GE crops, and even those that haven’t been approved to be grown in some countries – the countries still import them to feed animals and people, too. Tons of cows and pigs are fed GE crops in and as their feed, and they are just fine. No dioxins or other poisons. |

We have all been eating GMO’s for many years. The food and drug administration has taken great strides inprotection the public against harmful foods. I have lived on a farm all my life and find it absolutely appauling that such negative attention has been given to the GMO’s. The GMO’s have made it possible to produce more food with less added chemicals to provide for the people of this world. Farmers provide the food for this world. Food does not come from the grocery store by magic. I find it hard to believe that the public has become that far out of touch with reality that people do not know where their food comes from. Why don’t you do a segment on the local farm and where food actually comes from. |

GMO’s have made it possible for grapes to be seedless and numerous other things that help in the further production of food. Not all GMO’s are about chemicals. The chemistry is changed. What has more chemicals in it? Vanilla extract or imitation vanilla……? Imitation vanilla has fewer chemicals in it. Chemistry can isolate the chemical that actually makes the flavor and similate it with natural ingredients. So we all do not know everything about the food that we eat but if it is a GMO it has been researched by chemical experts and scientists.

Re: MRARAOTO, A quick point – seedless grapes are not genetically engineered. You are right about how long we’ve been eating them. It has now been 15+ years, with not a single confirmed case of harm to human health being caused by genetically engineering plants. |

There are no genetically engineered grapes on the market—yet. Selective breeding is what makes our food better and easier to grow. Genetically engineered food is created by slicing DNA in a lab, it is made to tolerate increased amounts of Round Up, or it has a toxin that grows inside the plant. Studies show that more pesticides are used on GE or GMO crops, not less. They also use more water, and the seeds can’t be saved, leading to more costs for the farmer, and greater control by the chemical companies that make them. Since GMO’s were introduced, Americans have become fatter, sicker, learning disabilities have increased, and food allergies have increased. There are lots of studies now to show they may be harmful to human health. They are clearly linked to the loss of honeybees, benefical soil organisms, fish, and frogs. Lots of information is available with an internet search. Thanks for the show. |

Nature has been doing natural selection since the beginning of time. Plant breeder learned to create hybrids by selecting plants with certain characteristics that they wanted. Now we do it by a more advance way by choosing exact characteristic we want. I choose to grow GMO crops to feed my family and neighbors because I know they are safe fo my family. That’s because every new biotech trait developed must be examined by the EPA, USDA and the FDA. We are now harvesting our 17th crop of GMO in the Unted States. It is not something new but is is getting a lot of publicity because sensationalism sells. |

Nature has not crossed a salmon and an Ocean Pout. It has not crossed human genes with rice genes. It has not crossed BT genes with corn. There are ways that nature stops this kind of crossbreeding between species. The FDA does not test these things. It says it relies on industry to test. Industry says it’s the FDA’s responsibility to test, theirs to make a profit. If you want to trust the results of chemical companies who told us DDT and 2,4-D were safe, you are welcome to eat them. I and 90% of the population want to know where they are. If they as so great, label them so you can find and feed your kids more of them. |
|
|
Actually, Monsanto’s official statement is that they don’t have to test GMO’s because they say they are not different from other foods. But nature would never combine two completely different species, and wouldn’t hold a patent on it either! The FDA, etc, has not done any long term studies on their safety. There are other kinds of biotechnology that show promise like gene markers, and breeding for nutritional value. But the real way to go, to feed us and the world is “agroecology” or" eco-farming." It means building the soil, planting diversity, supporting microorganisms, using the right breed in the right climate, and decreasing the use of toxic chemicals… Working with nature and not against it. |

“If you put a label on genetically engineered food you might as well put a skull and crossbones on it.” – Norman Braksick, president of Asgrow Seed Co., a subsidiary of Monsanto, quoted in the Kansas City Star, March 7, 1994 “Monsanto should not have to vouchsafe the safety of biotech food. Our interest is in selling as much of it as possible. Assuring its safety is the FDA’s job.” — Phil Angell, Monsanto’s director of corporate communications, quoted in the New York Times, October 25, 1998
