Anyone have experience with Lymes Disease?

My 18 yr old son was told he has had lymes, but it isn't active anymore. What do we need to look for if it does become active? How serious can this be? Can it become more serious if he gets bit by another tick?

If there is anything I can do to help just ask....

I have info on lyme on my profile.

The best I can tell you from my years of experience with lyme, there is no one symptom with lyme that kicks it off.  Personality is a big factor in lyme, the more intense you are the worse lyme is likely going to be for you.  So managing your stress, good and bad stress, is key for managing lyme.

Any doctor who says the illness isn't active anymore needs to be viewed with heavy skeptism.  I find that in some, usually those with laid back personalities, it can appear dormant.  However if that person experiences an extreme stress they are likely to have a relapse.  And the symptoms of the relaps may look nothing like the first experience with the illness..... So be warned.

I would advise you seek a lyme specialist for both you and your son.  I do feel you might be at risk since you seem to have a health issue which is hard to diagnose and has a wide range of symptoms.  That in itself can be a "symptom" of lyme.

I seriously do not understand why we are not more informed regarding Lyme Disease.  I was just diagnosed and many doctors "are not taking new patients" or asked if I am "depressed", etc.  My symptoms are a full page long and they are asking me if it's in my head? The blood work shows I tested positive, I've been dealing with this for almost two month (the knowledge of the positive results, not the disease) and have finally found a doctor who knows a little about it and that is only because he has it himself.  I watched the movie, "Under Our Skin," which scared me quite a bit.  Please provide any info.  We need to educate people on this subject - especially the doctors.

Can anyone advise me what to do with my body aches? It hurts so bad and I can't even fall asleep to get away from the pain.

My son has been diagnosed with Lyme disease over this summer and I am very disappointed that only one doctor  told his to get a blood test. Here is the shocking thing .My son has been in the Er 4 times with various symptoms and he has ben in a boy scout uniform for all the visits and had told them he works at a camp. The first symptom he had was an upper resp. infection. Ok I understand that maybe a blood test was not call ed for but then hids neck started to hurt him and he had bad headaches so back he went and they gave him xrays. Then the worst happened his right side of his face was paralyyzed and they said he bells palsy. They gave him a Mri but no blood test. He was in his scout uniform and he told him he worked at a camp. So they gave him an anti viral and a steroid. he is 20 so he is an adult so we as parents have not as much say. Fortunately he called his regular docter who said you need a lyme desease test. well it turned out he did have lymes . But I think all doctors need to look at the whole picture especially since he was in the Er 3 times. It is awful that my son was given all theses xrays , mris and no blood test. Same hospital mind you. More doctoeors should be educated on this disease .Hopefully we got it in time but it has been a struggle for him. Im wondering how long will these symptoms will last. Im just frustrated with the whole thing. And it is so serious the health department contacted us and hopefully they will educate the doctors especially if you have a person that is working at a camp ground that is wooded.
