I just woke up from a nap SOAKED with sweat, again----when people go through menopause (I don't know if you've gone thru it already or just know the answer--doesnt matter) do they wake up in a huge sweat to the point that they have to change clothes and take a bath? Like all the time? I cant sleep without waking up soaked. i'm only 36 so I dont think I am going thruogh menopause but do you know why in the world I wake up like that all the time? And it's not b/c i'm hot. Any suggestions to help me wake up with dry sheets the next time? thanks.
Melissa.

Hey Melissa,
I wouldn't think early menopause, unless your health or maybe one
of your meds is causing you too, or maybe it's a reaction to meds.
Any new meds recently? I would be talking to a gynocoligist if you
have one, if not the doc that give you the new meds. I hope you
find an answer soon! Karen
Hi Karen,
No. no recent new medications. i was thinking about it more and I noticed that if I eat right before I fall asleep, whatever it might be, I will wake up soaked. If I go to bed somewhat full, but not full, I don't sweat as much. I don't know if that has anny correlation with anything, but I have noticed that lately too. I'm not diabetic either. I'll probably ask my endocrinologist next time I see him, or before if it gets worse. Thanks for answering.
Melissa.
Hey Mellissa,
My first question was going to be are you Diabetic but there is also Hyper or was it Hypo glycemia which is exactly opposite to being Diabetic where if you eat, your pancreas secretes more insulin to take down that sugar, thus resulting in low blood sugar and giving you the same symptoms of a Diabetic having an insulin issue. I'm not a doctor, but I'm Diabetic (38 years). My sister is the opposite of me and still has to eat regularily or she gets those same symptoms as she has an overactive pancreas.
Just a thought. Get it checked out.
Ciao,
Sinikka
Hi Melissa,
I think Sinikka has some good ideas that are worth talking about with your
doctor. I wish you luck with your health, I hope you solved the problem on
your own. Take care, Karen
Hi Melissa
I have been experiencing the exact same thing for many years and i'm 31 years old now. I get them more right before my period. I'd say about two weeks before. Along with night terrors. I also have to change my pajamas sometimes up to three times a night.I wake up soaking wet and freezing cold. I have had many tests done as well, and recentely got diagnosed with Interstitial Cystitis. It's chronic inflammation of the bladder and urethra, so my specialst and surgeons suggested that could also be causing night sweats. Do you have any abdominal problems? Or do you take any medications? I'm also on Effexor, but have tried going off for a period of times and it didn't make a difference.
Eating before bed is a big no, no. As i also found out that eating especially sugar before bed, really gives you night sweats!! you may want to try not eating anything with sugar or anything heavy before bed. If i'm hungry i now eat an apple or orange and that seems to help. Hopefully some of that info is usefull to you:)
Kelly
Hi Kelly,
Thank you for the info...I learned about the sugar and no food before bed awhile back. That makes sense. I do have abdominal problems (IBS), and yes I am on medication, though the meds have been consistent so i dont think they play a role. I am waiting for my doctor to call me back to see what he wants to do. Thank you for the advice--much appreciated!
Melissa.
I'am not a Dr. But does Cancer run In your family thats one side affect of Cancer!you might want to check In to that. Not to scare you but worth checking into. My husband does have the night sweats where he soaked the steets and bed clothes, He found out two weeks ago he has Cancer. Hope this might help out.Angie
Yes, cancer does run in my family in all ways, mainly breast and ovarian cancer. I have a mammogram Friday. let's hope it's not cancer though!
Melissa.
Good luck ,Hope the best for ya.let me know how things come out for ya. angie
Thanks....I will. Hopefully I'll get the report back sooner than later with all good news.
Melissa.
Thank you, that is not a bad idea with the fan....you just reminded me too that my doctor hasnt called back from the day after I posted this. I just realized how much time has passed--I have to call after 1 PM today. I'm surprised he hasnt called back actually. I have been trying some suggestions from people who've posted and have found that not eating before bed helps drastically. Sometimes I cant help it b/c i get hungry but most of the time I sleep and wake up totally dry (I just did actually from a 2 hour nap). So that is encouraging that that is all it could be. But I do plan on talking to my doctor soon.
Melissa.
Update--the doctor just called back and wants a 24 hour urine sample to rule some thigns out. It's not my thyroid, labs were perfect recently. Jsut wanted people to know.

Hi Melissa,
In my opinion it could be early menopause or some of your med's. I would talk to your Doctors and also go to your Gyno, I had some blood work done and it showed that I was going through the early part of menopause. I was surprised that they could obtain this information from just a simple blood work, perhaps you could talk to your doc about it.

The answer to this problem is that there is nothing wrong! The doctor did the bloodwork and a 24-hour urinalysis and everything came back normal!. They arent as bad now but some nights really get to me!.
Melissa.
I've been doing a lot of reading lately due to myself going through menopause. My hot flashes started this past summer, and I went through the saliva hormonal testing. I feel very much in control of my life now due to this test. I found out I was estrogen dominant, and I am presently using the progesterone cream.
My advice is to go get your hormones checked. At the same time, get your thyroid checked as well. From what I have read, women need to start getting their thyroid checked at around 35. At the same time, make sure they check your reverse T3 levels. I was having difficulty losing weight, and my Reverse T3 levels came back in high range. I'm now heading in the right direction.
Hi, I got them twice done and they came back normal--very frustrating, but I think now it may be hormones because it happens only at a cetain time in my cycle -- not consistent, but enough to think that's the reason. I do have a thyroid problem but am on meds for that already. Thanks for the advice!
