Does anyone take this, or use it? What are it's benefits that people who use it notice? Any side effects? I took a flaxeed oil vitamin and my blood pressure dropped a lot so I couldn't take it anymore. Just wondering if I should buy the flaxseed and put it over cereal, or in recipes, or anything. And is it's use really beneicial, from personal experiences. Thanks.
Melissa.

Flaxseed oil contains Omega 3 and Omega 6 fatty acids. These oils can naturally reduce inflammation in the body. They lower blood pressure, cholesterol, and the risk of developing heart disease. People with autoimmune disease find these oils benificial since they lower inflammation in the body. You got the reaction you did from this oil because it lowered inflammation in your body. It caused your blood vessels to relax and it lowered your BP. Some people use Omega 3 to manage BP, rather than taking a pharmaceutical medication. The body likes the ratio of Omega 3 and Omega 6 to be 1:2. Flaxseed is 4:1. It would be best to take an Omega 6 oil in addition to Flaxseed, like Sesame Oil or Evening Primrose Oill.

Deathwish.....how did you find them beneficial?
Melissa.

Let me clarify something. Melissa saw the result she did because this particular oil reduced inflammation in her body. Melissa has obvious health disorders relating to inflammation in her body. People can have high blood pressure for many different reasons. Inflammation is not the one and only cause of high blood pressure. Cholesterol is notorious for causing blood vessels to become inflamed. Some vessels just don't tolerate cholesterol and the vessels become irritated. Then there's genetic high blood pressure. My Mother wouldn't find flaxseed helpful. She's a tiny petit woman who weighs 100 lb and her cholesterol is like 160, which is a super great cholesterol level to have. If she got off her BP meds, her BP would jump to 280/150 in a short time. To spite her weight, good cholesterol, and overall good health...she just has a very bad genetic disposition to have high blood pressure. I'm all for alternative therapies, just be careful when exploring such therapies. :)
I have heard and read it helps in the digestive system and helps keep it regulated.
Hi, I've read that too but wasn't sure how well it worked and how much you needed to take to make it all work. And if it needs to be capsules or the flaxseed you can sprinkle over cereal or in recipes.

I consciously had to add some Omega 3 to my diet after dieting and avoiding fats for awhile. I began to feel surprisingly tired, sometimes fuzzy headed and dizzy. When I added in flaxseed oil/and or ground flaxseed to my oatmeal, it made all the difference immediately. My endurance at the gym increased significantly. Also, the dizziness and fuzzy headedness disappeared right away. Chia seeds are also a great source of Omega 3. I wouldn't worry much though about getting enough omega 6. Most people's everyday diets supply more than enough.
P.S. I understand that omega 6 actually increases inflammation. Omega 6 is found in animal fats and in some vegetable oils.
An aside: Pregnant women who take omega 3 supplements like fish oil, flaxseed or chiaseed give birth to children with an average of 10 points higher IQs.
I buy my flaxseed from Kroger. It is HODGESON MILL brand, milled flaxseed. It is ground and it can be put on anything. I mix it into my smoothie; into my herb-encrusted pork loin; over my yogurt. It is multipurpose and it works in this form.
Try it. Good Luck!
Thank you Mrs11Alive for your input. I usually use (not sure of the brand --- dont have any here at the moment ) which is a "powder-like" texture that i caould put in like oatmeal or something. I needed to add more water to the oatmeal, but there isn't a taste which makes it easy to use.

I'm on my 4th bottle of Udo's Choice Omega 3-6-9 blend. Ingredients (copied from website below):
I love it! I feel like it has definitely reduced my pain and inflammation, and improved my skin. Here's Udo Erasmus's site that I like to go to, to read all the benefits of Essential Fats, when you read them all, you truly know this is a miracle supplement, no matter which way you get it into your body:
http://www.udoerasmus.com/products/oil_blend_en.htm
P.S. Most Americans consume WAY TOO MUCH Omega-6s, which does cause inflammation, which is what livinlife mentioned, BUT you still need a good quality Omega-6 in a lesser amount...Udo's Choice does the perfect ratio of 3s, 6s, and 9s for you...and as long as you don't cook with Omega-6 oil or eat foods with Omega-6s, you should be fine.
Is what you are talking about a pill that you take?
Melissa.
Hi Melissa,
No, I take the oil form, just because it is waaaay stronger than pill forms of flaxseed oil (Just look at the calorie difference...30 cals for one pill dose...120 cals for one tablespoon). I usually get the smaller bottle at Whole Foods Market, but here's a picture of the bigger one from amazon...you can also read some of the 19 customer reviews, I tend to agree with most of them:
http://www.amazon.com/Udos-Choice-3-6-9-32-Ounce-Bottle/dp/B0010ED3DQ/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1335374832&sr=8-3
It says to take a tablespoon every day (120 calories), which I do...I usually mix it into a half cup of orange juice and drink it, but this morning I put it in my whey protein/almond milk/fruit smoothie and it tasted great. Can be used as a salad dressing...just don't cook with it because it loses its potency. And store it in the fridge.
