Anyone hear about the new mammogram guidelines? After 40, every other year. 50-75 every year. And they are saying that self-breast exams aren't needed--serve no purpose. ????? Does this make sense?

Absolutely not! Ladies......be proactive in your care. Know your body!
BTW.........American Cancer Society is against these new guidelines which happened to be conducted by independent Scientists. A group of them got together, did a study and recommended these guidelines. There are too many personal success stories of women much younger then what's recomended in these guidelines. I can't stress it enough, know your body and be proactive in your care, if it doesn't feel right, it most likely isn't right.
Thanks for posting this Mel. I can just see an explosion in Breast Cancer if doctors follow these guidelines. Once again, it is up to us at patients (consumers). It just blew me away when I heard this.
Like people were saying without these early detection /prevention mechanisms a lot of people wont be around who would otherwise be.

Sorry---it every 2 years starting at the age of 50. (mammogram) This is crazy!!
Melissa.
Yes I heard about the new guidelines but not sure where they originated from and am quite astounded by them. The medical community preaches prevention but these new guidelines only push back the preventative measures. I disagree with the guidelines and hope the insurance companies don't follow the new guidelines. Women need to do what is right for them on their own timeline and not follow the new proposed guidelines. To do so would only set up more woman for early cancers not caught.
Meliss, you are my friend and I love you very much. Go to your dr. every year for a mammo and keep doing self checks. these people are trying to cut costs or cause more deaths to spike costs or raise more funding. DON'T CHANGE WHAT YOU HAVE BEEN DOING!!! I will be in touch through e-mail, I am leaving this site. Love you!! Love, bobbie
Hi Melissa,
Do you think it has anything to do with
insurance? I get one free every year.
This is just too crazy, I do self exams
but obviously the mammogram was
necessary,we can't detect everything.
Yes--I think it h as to to with the new universal healthcare thing...just a guess, but I think it is a good one.
Melissa.
This is really crazy, I don't know what those nut's were thinking about when they said that!! Tella
