I was just reading about blueberries and how by eating them they can reduce abdominal fat over a period of time. Of course I was interested in this, haha, so here is a small blurb on it:
In a study performed by the University of Michigan’s Cardioprotection Research Laboratory, they found rats fed on high/low fat diet consisting of 2% whole blueberry powder they managed to lose abdominal weight over a period of 90 days.
During this 3 month period, the rats were found to have: less abdominal fat, lower blood cholesterol levels, and improved glucose and insulin control – all vital elements in preventing heart disease and diabetes.
Can blueberries really make such a difference?
The truth is they can. For years blueberries have been positively associated with numerous natural health benefits, and if this research is accurate, then preventing heart disease and diabetes is just one of them.
.....I was shocked to find out how much blueberries can influence your body, but the research is there and it does look very promising.
By ingesting its naturally occurring chemical anthocyanin, you can take control of how your body stores and processes glucose, thus enabling your body to lose weight, stay healthy and prevent any future health problems.
And it’s not just your weight that blueberries can help.
In a separate study done on men who had a high risk of developing heart disease, when they drank wild blueberry juice for 3 weeks, they experienced slight improvements in their glucose levels.
So if you would like to improve your overall health, and offer your stomach a slimmer future, try incorporating some blueberries into your diet. It could make all the difference you need.

April 19, 2009 -- Busting belly fat may be yet another of blueberries’ health benefits.
A new study shows rats who ate a diet rich in blueberries lost abdominal fat -- the kind of fat linked to heart disease and diabetes -- as well as experienced other health benefits like lowered cholesterol and improved glucose control even if their diet wasn’t otherwise heart-healthy.
"Some measurements were changed by blueberry even if the rats were on a high-fat diet," researcher E. Mitchell Seymour, MS, of the University of Michigan’s Cardioprotection Research Laboratory, says in a news release.
Researchers say the results suggest that antioxidant-rich blueberries may change how the body stores and processes glucose or sugar for energy, thereby reducing the risk of both heart disease and diabetes.
"The benefits of eating fruits and vegetables have been well researched, but our findings in regard to blueberries show the naturally occurring chemicals they contain, such as anthocyanins, show promise in mitigating these health conditions," researcher Steven Bolling, MD, of the University of Michigan, says in the release.
Melissa.
I love blueberries, but not the frozen.
I eat them everyday when they are
in season here, which is not now
so I substitute with dried cherries.
Probably not the same health benefits
but they taste great on cereal.
How are frozen blueberries different from the fresh ones...is it just the taste?
Melissa.
so do blueberrie muffins work lol...
