I had my total knee replacement done on March 7th. I was in the hospital for 3 days. Yes I'm home now. But I'm in so much pain it's not even funny. I'm on morphine & oxycodone & thats still not taking the pain completely away. I have PT & a nurse coming 3 days a week each. Then when my staples come out I'll be going to PT. This will be a long & hard recovery. I can't go to my weigh in for at least 3 more weeks. Or at least until I'm able to walk without assiatance or a walker. I'm beginning to think what was I thinking by doing this. Everyone keeps telling me I'll be so happy when it's over. I'm still waiting for that moment. JEEZ!!! I hope the pain goes away soon.

I had hip surgeries, and it seems like forever before you feel better. What helped me the most was the PT. I am maintaining the muscle by walking everyday, and in the summer walking in water (a little higher than waist height). If you have access to a pool I strongly suggest using it to strengthen the muscles. The water takes a lot of the pain and pressure off the joint -- was the best way I could have started. IMO focus on the PT and eat enough protein. I hope this helps.

Hang in there Miley, I had both knees replaced, First on Sept, 2009 and second one Feb 2010. I thought the same thing you did, that is it worth all the pain. Trust me it is!!! I couldn't walk across the room without pain, now I walk 4 - 5 miles a day, My knees are doing great but don't expect a lot for at least 6 months. PT is no fun and I was terrible about doing it without them but I turned out great. After only a few sessions you will be able to lift your leg by yourself. Progress is fast for a few weeks and then slows down to a crawl,
Hope YOU are feeling better today w/o need for medication soon and well on the road to recovery. It was nice to see your spirits lifting on Facebook. You've been so much of an inspiration to so many over the past year as we've gotten to share in your journey & commitment to a healthier you. It was because of your going on and walking even with your knees not in the best of shape that I resumed too. I'd been using an exercise bike yet got to where I couldn't stand on knees & was using a cane and/or holding on to Lynn to get from point A to point B.
Being independent souls as you and I are it is just not our style to need assistance, a walker or a cane. That's VERY humbling and I hope never happens to me again and that SOON you are be bopping around with your surgery a success to match your wonderful success over the past year. Still rooting for you in Dallas, and praying blessings you and your family's ways. God Bless you and yours abundantly always (Amen). Hugging prayers, SEA
