lipomas

Please discuss lipomas: what they are, why they happen, is there any danger associated with them, and what can be done to treat/stop them. There are so now many frustrating cosmetic issues that have a solution (varicose veins, too much hair, short eyelashes, etc.) but this doesn't seem to have a treatment or solution - so it receives no attention. But there are many who suffer the embarrassment and frustration about the problem and they need to be acknowledged. I have somewhere between 50 and 100 of them and always wear long sleeves. They started when I was in my 40's (why) and now seemed to have stopped or slowed down. I don't know anyone in my family with the same condition. Do I have lumps I cannot see? Will I miss a dangerous lump or tumor because of all the lipomas? If a treatment is available is it considered cosmetic (not covered by insurance)?
