Anxiety and Panic Attacks

Posted by alrmom to Other, Sep 9, 2009 9:46am

Please discuss panic attacks - explain them and how to help. Also explain the difference between panic attacks and heart attacks. I have been to the ER thinking I was having a heart attack and found out that it was panic. How can you know the difference? Doctors have told me to ignore chest pain, it is just stress. That is scarey!!

I'm with you and would rather go to ER and let them determine that than self diagnose and even what I just read Googling said that. Love to see if THE DOCTORS agree with us to not risk it and go to ER. Said typically pain with a heart attack yet not always so why should go to ER to let medical professionals determine. I'm as perplexed as you and, as a fellow THE DOCTORS member, think an important show. Sometimes breathing exercises like in Dr. Phil's book Ultimate Weight Loss Solution Relaxation Script on page 285-286 helps me. Jay suggests to in his books... Equalizing breaths breathing in to count of 12345+ and out to 12345+ ... Calmly... Thinking a calming mantra "I'm calm, relaxed, poised and confident." At least helps me to equalize breathing and think ... calming... thoughts. Often before panic attack a persons breathing askew. So... I breathe... calmly... Avoid caffeine.

Hypnosis is a great way to deal with panic attacks. Check out the International Medical & Dental Hypnotherapy Association website for a qualified hypnotherapist in your area.
