Breast REDUCTION

Posted by mcfbrennan to Plastic & Cosmetic Surgery, Sep 11, 2009 10:26am

It would be nice to see the OTHER side of Boob-jobs - REducing rather than increasing in size.

I have just met with a surgeon (O. Placik - IL) that my orthopedic surgeon who did my back surgery recommended. We are just starting the process. I have done a lot of research, but I have to admit, there is not as much info out there on reductions as there is for increases.

Letting people know what situations where insurance might cover part of the costs.

Additionally covering:
- The procedure - incision options and scaring
- Repairs that can be made - reshaping the nipple, etc.
- Healing time
- Recommendations and considerations that are not on a lot of the web sites - how to figure out a good new size to go down to. etc.

I like this idea, especially about the insurance! How about advise on how to get the insurance to pay?! My doctor has suggested I have a breast reduction, but he also said it is VERY difficult, nearly impossible to get my insurance to pay for it, even though it causes me back and shoulder pain.

My sister had reduction surgery 30 years ago, it was the best thing she ever did. I wish I had also done it back then. I have fought with back, shoulder pain, fungal infections under and between my breats most of my life. My mom told me when I breast fed my kids that my size would naturally go down, HAH! I had twin boys, another boy and then my daughter. Guess what? Same size! And I breast fed my twins for the first year, my next son and then I was only able to breast feed my premature daughter for 3 weeks while she was in the NICU. Then I developed a fungal infection in my C-section incision. Had to go on Flagyl and that was the end of breast feeding. So even though I am 53 years old, I still want the surgery. I have Medicare A & B & D and also Hoosier Healthwise in Indiana.

I had a friend who was very short and extremely large breasted. Her insurance paid without any problems. She on the other hand had to have drains in for over two months & incision infections. I saw the actual surgery on the discovery channel & even though I'd love a reduction after seeing that NO WAY!! I'm hoping the DOCTORS will try a new technique of using lipo suction. They had a show the other day in which they used fat from other body parts to enhance, why not the same for reduction? That's why I posted a request for PAINLESS BREAST REDUCTION. Good Luck whatever you do, maybe your doctor would let you watch a video of the procedure so you can know what you are in for.
