Peutz Jeghers Syndrome

Posted by londarhawk to Disease/Illness, Aug 2, 2010 4:27pm

I have something called Peutz Jegher's Syndrome. It is a genitic mutation that causes polyps anywhere in the entire digestive track, from the mouth all the way to the anus. The symptoms include: bloody stool, loose stool, dark oral pigmented lesions in the mouth. If the ployps grow to big the can cause cramping and even blockage I got very lucky and my PJS was dfiscovered at the age of 12 in the late 1960s. The frequency from 1 case per 60,000 people to 1 case per 300,000 people.

It is hereditary in most cases, although I have read that it can be a spontaneous mutation in a rare few. I seem to be one of the rare ones. No one else in my family has it. PJS affects different people in different ways some only get the dark spots some only get a few polyps, some (Like me) can get hundreds of polyps. In my case they became to bad I ended up getting a colonectomy and now have to live with an illiostomy for the rest of my life.

I am including several links to sites with information on it.
