My 7 year old nephew has been bravely battling brain cancer for 3 years now. I think it is important for views of The Doctors to understand the lasting effects of agressive treatments used to save these kids. My nephew has strokes from radiation therapy used almost 2 1/2 years ago to save him. He is in daily rehab to relearn how to walk, talk, and eat. Please help open America's eyes to the 12,500 children/families that will learn their kids have cancer this year. with hope... Clyde Ohio has a great number of children who have cancer. I have watched these families desperately try to find answers to WHY? We need more research, we have had 2 children die already and to watch the pain is unbearable, NO parent should have to go through what these families have had to endure. Alexa Brown was the last child to lose her battle with cancer, Alexa and her family fought till the end but her little body could take no more. Please find a cure for ALL children with child hood cancer. Cindy MacLeod

My daughter Katie was diagnosed with stage 4 wilm's tumor (kidney cancer) on Nov. 19, 2007. She has been through so much these past few years. Numerous hospital stays, 24 weeks of chemo, radiation, losing her hair, an operation to remove the large eggplant size tumor, and her left kidney. We were completely blind-sided by her diagnosis as she was always a healthy little girl. She is remission just over a year now and finally doing well. I think bringing awareness of this aweful disease would be so helpful to so many families. Even if you are not personally effected, perhaps hearing about it may inspire you to get involved in a charity that helps benefit these kids and their families. My oldest daughter, Olivia was diagnosed with Chronic Myeloid Leukemia when she was 16 years old. I took her in to our pediatrician for a yearly sports physical to play high school volleyball. We were totally blindsided when her bloodwork came back and showed she had cancer. She presented NO signs or symptoms that anything was wrong! We went to the doctor that day thinking she would be getting the routine physical and came home with the most devastating news any family could ever imagine. Olivia went through 8 months of chemo and then underwent a bone marrow transplant with her younger sister, Emily as her donor. She spent over two months in the hospital during her transplant and while trying to recover from the transplant, she developed a rare disease called VOD. This disease was caused from the massive doses of chemo she received in preparation for her transplant. A bone marrow transplant is the ONLY cure for CML and as for the VOD which is a disease of the liver, she was given less than a 5% chance of survival, but with the help of an experimental drug, she pulled through. After almost losing our little girl twice during this ordeal, we feel it is very IMPORTANT to make America and the rest of the world aware of just how many kids are and will be diagnosed this year of cancer. Childhood Cancer needs proper funding to search for a cure for these kids!!!! It needs to be brought to the attention of lawmakers... to pass laws to allow this funding to go through. Please help us to educate people on the seriousness of this horrific disease. One childs death is one too many! Sincerely Patti Mallett (oliviamallett.blogspot.com) To follow Olivia's journey though cancer.
