my mom, takes lots and lots of pain medication, can you get pain in your back and lots of headaches being addicted, making you want more medication. it seems like her back hurts all the time, so she keeps taking more and more medication, and i dont like it. so im curious if there is something actually going on with her back or if her back can keep hurting and getting worse from taking pain meds.

As a stay at home mom, a lot of times I check symptoms online. What are good, reputable medical websites out there? Are there some to stay away from?

I have followed the doctors program for several years now and have tried to follow prescriptions for tests, check-ups, and exams. The number 1 issue in health care today is cost and this is an issue you have not addressed. A summary of some of my recent procedures are as follows:
Billed Amount Insurance Allowed
Physical $2,015 $605
Colonoscopy $2,866 $1,419
ACL Transplant $34,148 $13,080
Left Aorta Stint $42,478 $23,636
Redo Stints $58,342 $21,028
Prostate Biopsy $12,129 $3,994
Physican costs are only a portion, in order to protect themselves a large portion of the total is for tests, pathology, lab work, MRI's, etc. I am fortunate to have good insurance but many folks do not and a lot of the procedures you all recommend are quite expensive. I think you should do a segment on the costs of health care, options, and alternatives to the current system that is so controversal in today's environment. Costs, reform, and long term consequences are a very major issue in our society currently and will likely continue to be a major issue in the future.

Lost of people are taking care of little children at home because they are unemployed.
It's very stressful for some to take care of children. Grandparents are helping out families who can no longer afford day care. Fathers at home with kids...tend to spoil the kids to keep them quiet. Added to this, parents are worried about how to make it day to day and this stress is spreading to their kids. I realize you don't have a psychologist on the show, but get one who specializes in children and then one who specializes on how to destress their lives. How to avoid worry worry worry.

Ways to cope with the illness you will have for every day for the rest of your life. I have had Lupus for 7 years now and have learned ways to make your life easier and more enriching. Special diet (easy to follow), yoga (for exercise), and a great rheumatologist to guide you through your prescriptions and your health levels. I have the best doctor on the West Coast and him being my third rheumatologist , he came along, saved my life with chemotherapy and medicines in a matter of 6 months. Through what I've learned I lead a somewhat normal life now. I work a full time job, have kids in college and make much needed time for myself. A lot of women deal with all forms of lupus and we need to share information for hope.
Also: For the first time, there is a medicine being tested for Lupus. It is in stage 2 of 3. My doctor and the doctors at UCLA research are watching this carefully. The lupus community (and there's lots of us - 80% are women) are very hopeful.
Please consider this idea, there's a lot you can cover in many shows on this topic.
Thank you,
Therese Sparks
