I have a condition called Hydrocephalus. Its a fairly common disorder, but a lot of people do not know anything about it. Even neurosurgeons do not know about the latest treatments to treat the condition. Some doctors often times refuse to help complicated patients like me. I almost died as a result of a doctor that didn't know how to treat my complications. Doctors and the general public do not know what sort of complications can occur with it.When they learn that you have it, they think that you have emotional or mental illness, or that you are stupid. I was told growing up that would never be smart enough to graduate Highschool, let alone go to College. Now I am a college graduate. There needs to be a show on this desperately to dispell myths associated with the condition.

Dandy-Walker Syndrome is a brain malformation of the cerebellum. There has been limited research conducted in this area. Most parents, who's child is diagnosed in-utero, are encouraged to terminate the pregnancy because that's what the text books teach. We were one of those couples who were diagnosed at 18 weeks gestation and encouraged to terminate because they could see NO brain on the ultrasound. Our son had seven brain surgeries and five other surgeries before he was 3 1/2. He just started "regular' Kindergarten.

Together with another family, the first non-profit organization, The Dandy-Walker Alliance, was formed in hopes of raising awareness and providing hope to other families. In 2008, Congress passed the FIRST House Congressional Resolution on Dandy-Walker, #163, to help raise awareness. We've spoken to over a thousand parents of children with Dandy-Walker over the past few years, as well as many adults who have Dandy-Walker. It would be great to bring awareness and to really gain a better understanding of the broad spectrum of affects that individuals have from this syndrome. Hello! I am about to undergo a second major brain surgery for a tumor severely compressing my brainstem. These tumors are the hallmark of a condition known as NF2 - Neurofibromatosis Type II. Sooner or later all of us need to get the same kind of surgery and some need the surgery several times as there is no cure currently for NF2. Thus, the tumors grow back - some sooner than others.
These tumors have caused me to become completely deafened, impaired my vision, and stolen my balance function. The surgery is to save my life and preserve my present quality of life if possible. Even with such devastating side effects, I am doing quite well compared to others who have suffered from this disorder.
My surgery is coming up fast! If you miss it, there are always others of us checking in and out of the hospital for brain surgery (and spine surgery). I can't keep track who is going in for surgery as it is that many.

My daughter was born with a congenital heart defect known as Tetrology of fallot. We had no Idea of her defect until she was born. She has had 5 open heart surgeries but that is not her only issue. Because of all the stress of undergoing 5 open heart surgeries in such a short amount of time( before she turned 2) caused her to have multiple mini strokes. This also caused her to have to get a tracheotomy and g-button. Now my daughter is having to have multiple therapies and we are having to start all over with her.
I just want people to be aware of Congenital heart defects and how much it can change a persons life.
