First let me say how much we enjoyed our front row seats on The Dr's last month. Brian, our contact , gave us VIP treatment.
As a dentist, I have devoted the past 10 years of my practicing to educating my patients about the AMA info linking periodontal disease with heart disease and diabetes. Every patient leaves with this info as diabetes and heart disease are on the rise and perio disease is easily corrected when detectwed as a majority of US residents show some form of it. I would suggest a show all about healthy heart habits and include this topic. I've enjoyed seeing Bill Dorfman, DDS on your show in the past (we were school mates) and I would love to be your dental audience expert on this connection.
Regards,
Richard Allen, DDS

First, I love your show! I have learned a great deal so far and have actually changed some of my bad habits as a result. Second, I think your show is missing another doctor, a dentist. So many people are unaware of all the dental issues that exist and those who do, need some guidance and direction as far as obtaining the right information and referrals to help with their unique problems. Preventive measures for the younger generation are very important as well, education is key and should begin at the infant level. We have many clueless parents jeopardizing their babies teeth. The last thing I want to bring up is....LEMONS! I am 39 years old with bad teeth, which resulted from eating lemons. LOTS of lemons! I was an adolescent at the time, raised by grandparents who had no idea it would damage my teeth. I ate boxes and boxes of them for a whole year straight, thanks to my aunt who had lemon trees behind her house. I had braces put on the following year and after that....watched in horror as my teeth started to encounter problems one after the other. I had so many root canals and different dental procedures that would bankrupt many families. The dentist couldn't believe how much acid was present on all my teeth and said I would have to be seen on a regular bases forever. Unfortunately, life doesn't guarantee that will happen. Here I am today, a 39 year old mother of three beautiful girls, educated, unemployed (was laid off two years ago, still job searching), no insurance, suffering from the many missing teeth in my mouth and fighting to save the last ones I have. I think its the reason I'm not getting hired. I do not wish this on anyone else. So I think its very important that one of your shows addresses dental issues and what acidic foods can cause. I have to live with my bad decisions. Please help by getting the word out there. Thank you!

This show/segment would focus on people who, like myself, find themselves in a situation where they have lost their employment, are uninsured, and who have dental issues that are going untreated and are causing them stress.
My story
After recently losing my job, which did not provide benefits, and going from being a two income household to being a one income household - where neither person is insured - I have found myself in desperate need of a root canal. Because of the cost of dental work, an inability to qualify for financing due to being unemployed and credit being overextended on my partner's side, I find myself under a lot of stress. No dentists are willing to work with us on a payment plan, as we're not looking for a handout, just consideration on payments. $3,000 is a lot of money out of pocket, but if split out over a few months, is manageable. This is emotionally taxing, leaving me feeling as though I will never find relief. I've considered drastic measures, including home dentistry.
The pain of desperately needing dental work has kept me from actively searching for employment. It's hard to exude confidence when you're worried about bringing your teeth together and getting that really sharp shock of pain, or worse yet, having a potential employer see a problem with your teeth.
Additionally, dental problems lead to lack of restful sleep and are adding to the feelings of stress, panic and desperation.
Thanks, Doctors (and concept producers) for a great show.
