A Texas A&M Graduate stopped by today with a headache she woke up with. She brought HERO veggie sandwiches for us for lunch. After lunch the ibuprofen Lynn gave to her brough zero relief.

An hour later even though I never have offered her a foot massage before... Nonetheless, while sitting there saddened she woke up with a headache today... Suddenly the reflexology chart for massaging feet that my mother sent me years ago visual came to mind.

So I offered her a foot massage. Massaged her right foot & both hands then when I decided seemed inharmonious to leave left foot out since hard to reach on sofa... Did left foot too. She felt immediate relief when i began left foot so I said I ought to Google to see what part is for head on hands/feet chart. Amazing grace, if I read correctly, it IS the left foot tips of toes and base of toes corresponding to head, eyes & ears. She an I are both research & scientifically inclined so independent, over lunch, research.

When she arrived at 11 a.m. she looked like someone looks who woke up with a headache. When she left at 2:30 p.m. she was her beaming, perky self again without tension in her face saying to me that I should become a professional foot and hand massager. I've only had one hand massage and remembered how relaxing that was. We often neglect our feet and hands that do so much for us.

So, anyway, next headache you feel coming on pour ice water over a wash rag to put over your forehead and eyes... lie down on sofa and have your feet and hands massaged. Or grab some lotion and your left foot and massage toes/foot. It was interesting because her feet were bunched up like a fist & all relaxed by the time she left... Fringe benefit is my hands are soft after massaging all the Lubriderm onto her feet and hands for about 30+ minutes.

Pain meds and injections for 1 1/2 years before being introduced to the boston scientific spinal cord stimulator. After a one week trial I had the stimulator implanted. Currently I am still in the recovery stage but the stimulator is doing its job. I think there alot of people on medications for their back/leg pain and this option is not presented or is unknown to them. i would like to see an episode covering the benefits of the stimulator and being weened off of pain meds. I would be interested in appearing on the show to testify and could get the sales rep along with my pain management doctor to possibly appear. It has made a huge difference in my life in just the short amount of time it has been implanted. I know Dr. Travis speaks all the time about reducing or eliminating medications and I feel this is one option. I think America would be very interested in this technology!

The doctor was not paying attention that I had no appetite and was loosing alot of weight, he had pure tunnel vision. I went to another doctor and he did a chest x-ray and I had a very large tumor in my lung. I had a stage 111B nonsmall cell lung cancer. If I would have known about the pet scan in the beginning I may have been able to save my lung.

Americans’ addiction to digital devices is causing some major vision-related problems. According to research released yesterday by VSP Vision Care, 33 percent of eye doctors surveyed reported that nearly one third or more of their patients suffer from symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome (CVS) or digital device-related vision problems.

With symptoms that include eye strain, dry or irritated eyes, fatigue and headaches, CVS can cause a decrease in work productivity by as much as 20 percent. However, survey results show that very few patients even know what Computer Vision Syndrome is!

Research Finds More People Are Suffering From Computer Vision Syndrome Affecting Learning and Work Productivity; VSP Offers Tips to Reduce Effects

RANCHO CORDOVA, Calif.-July 26, 2010 – Eye strain, fatigue and headaches are common indicators that your digital devices – including computer monitors, smart phones and video games - might be causing you discomfort.

According to recent research with VSP Vision Care eye doctors, 33 percent reported that nearly one third or more of their patients suffer from symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome or digital device-related vision problems. The most common symptoms of patients suffering from Computer Vision Syndrome include eye strain (82 percent), dry or irritated eyes (74 percent), fatigue (70 percent) and headaches (61 percent). Yet, two in three eye doctors report 20 percent or fewer of their patients even know what Computer Vision Syndrome is, showing a low level of understanding of the condition.

Computer Vision Syndrome is a serious condition that can have a major impact on the well-being, work productivity and learning capacity. As six hours is the average time spent in front of a digital device, American workers alone are spending in excess of 200 billion hours a year in front of a digital screen.

“Computer Vision Syndrome is a major problem for Americans,” said Dr. Nate Bonilla-Warford, VSP provider.” For professionals with this condition, work productivity can decrease by as much as 20 percent. We are seeing patients uncomfortable in the workplace with neck pain, headaches, eye strain, blurred vision, etc. that could easily be avoided. It’s important for people to discuss their digital usage with their eye doctor and make sure they are getting annual eye exams.”

VSP Vision Care recommends the following tips to help lessen the symptoms of computer-related eye strain:

1) Blink Often: When looking at a computer or hand-held digital device, it’s common for you to blink two to three times less than you normally would. This can lead to "dry eye." Blinking bathes your eyes in tears, and tears are naturally therapeutic for the eyes.

2) The 20/20/20 Rule: When spending long periods in front of a digital device, every 20 minutes, spend 20 seconds looking at something 20 feet away to allow your eyes to rest.

3) Ensure Proper Lighting: Poor lighting often causes eye strain. To help ease the strain on your eyes, keep bright lighting overhead to a minimum and position your desk lamp to shine on your desk, and not at you. Position your computer screen in a way that reduces reflections and glare from windows or overhead lights.

“Today, digital device eye strain is the number one computer-related complaint ahead of carpal-tunnel, neck and back pain,” Dr. Bonilla-Warford continued. “Eye doctors are trained to help patients mitigate the symptoms of Computer Vision Syndrome, and can even offer computer vision glasses, which are prescribed glasses that provide the optimal lens power for viewing your computer screen at the correct distance, without the need for excessive focusing or squinting.”
