This show would talk about the causes of sensitive teeth and enlighten us as to whether there is any other remedy besides brushing with sensitive teeth toothpaste. Also, is there a way to prevent getting sensitive teeth in the first place? I discovered that I had a sensitive tooth during a routine teeth cleaning procedure 10 years ago about a month after I had my first baby. During the next teeth cleaning 6 months later, I found that a few more teeth gave me sharp pain when scraped. I've been using toothpaste for sensitive teeth daily, so now I usually don't feel any pain during my dental visits except for maybe on one tooth. SInce the pain isn't always on the same tooth, I'm guessing that maybe all of my teeth would be sensitive without the toothpaste. I'm wondering whether being pregnant somehow caused my teeth to lose minerals and become sensitive. I asked my dentist whether sensitive teeth may be an indication of bone loss (osteoporosis) in other parts of the body, but he said it wasn't. However, I'm not convinced.

I'd like more information on this subject. I noticed both of my young children do this in their sleep every now and then and it sounds terrible. Their father also does this sometimes. I don't think I do.

It would be great to have a segment on the show about children's teeth and the care parents can provide at home to prevent problems. I just took my 3 year old to a pediatric dentist for his first visit, and realized I should have had him in much sooner. I know you can take a child when they are like 18 months but I didn't know how important it was at that age when my son only had a few teeth. If I had had him in sooner he wouldn't be facing root canals and crowns on all four of his top front teeth. I'm a parent who breastfed, and never put him to bed with a bottle. He drinks lots of water and our family is very health conscious, especially in our son's diet. He doesn't eat a lot of sugar, but the one mistake we made was giving him 1 cup of juice in the mornings. The dentist and I feel this is the reason for his cavities and the need for the extreme dental work. If I had known better than to give him something as simple as fruit juice in the mornings, this might have been prevented. Also, if I had known just how important it was to get him in before he was three I could have done that also. I found a lot of parents online that are facing similar problems that could have been prevented but no one knew. A segment on children's teeth and with a pediatric dentist would be awesome. We need to get the word out because baby teeth are completely different than adult teeth, and are mostly root, which can lead to major problems if cavities and decay are not caught and treated early on.
