The Faith Community Nurse (FCN) program that we have needs to have this idea spread throughout the country. Our FCN educates, advocates, refers, counsels, collaborates and facilitates others to gain levels of wellness and more effectively manage personal health issues. The FCN also trains volunteers and support teams in our area.

The FCN embodies the spiritual, psychological, physical and social dimensions of the whole person. The FCN also educates our parents at the local school, especially the pre-kindergarten students. She educates the parents to make healthy choices for the family.

She also makes home visits to most of her patients. Most are seniors who have questions about medications, what the doctor said, what did he/she mean, she takes many to doctor appointments, and much more. There is so much that she does, I cannot tell you all she does on this site.

Local churches take up collections/offerings to pay her a salary. We started the FCN program with a Duke Endowment fund but it dwindles each year in the amount. With the amount of unemployment in the area, funding is tough, but we find it.

We need to spread the news for others to learn from this program.

With bill proposals that are over 1000 pages long, and billions of dollars being spent on lobbying by the the private industries such as insurance and pharmaceutical companies, how can the general public know what to support and what to protest. A show, no with no agenda for either democratic or republican or the AMA etc. that is "just the facts" about health care legislation could change the country and save a lot of lives. Please consider something like this, time is running out., I am tired of seeing patients who have lost their businesses and homes because of health care costs.

My collie-mix Tigger Tiggs passed away January 9, 2010. I haven't felt such enormous grief since my mother passed away February 10, 2003. Beginning then, when I was feeling enormous grief for mom, Tigger got up in bed with me every a.m. & would scoot next to me until his back was up against mine. I adopted Tigger February 9, 2000. He had lived in a cage a year at pet orphanage and been adopted and returned twice before I adopted Tigger.

I'm heartsick his last week of life was spent in a cage... Hoping and praying his last thoughts weren't when he felt the worse he had in his life he was being returned a third time. The first day he was admitted he was jumping on bars like when I first met him to "please let him out." I wake up crying grieving for Tigger and have such enormous pain it is heart wrenching and gripping, literally. I'm just devastated by the loss of Tigger Tiggs.
