As we have learned watermelon is about 97% water and is a great aide to fighting Type 11 Diabetes and Obesity. Fighting Obesity has become a national mandate beginning at the White House and trickling down to individual households and schools. Although there is no perfect plan in place we all try to do what we can to bring awareness of these issues to the forefront.
The Wumblers is doing their part in building awareness of Watermelon and how fun and healthy it is. Through this new children's brand that was created by a mother of four (now five as a new little one has been added to the mix) where the characters are born from Watermelon we have been able to partner with The National Watermelon Association where they have been using our Baby Wumbler Plush to teach kids in school about the nutritional benefits of Watermelon. Through the National Watermelon Association and Watermelon Promotions Board you can find fun watermelon recipes for the whole family. The Watermelon Industry has become huge supporters of the Wumblers and they even carry the Baby Wumbler image on the side of Watermelon bins and cartons in supermarkets nationwide.
Last year we were approached to create an iphone app that brought watermelon seed spitting into the palm of your hand where one tech blogger wrote us that it has helped get his kids to eat watermelon. How great is that!!
The reason the Wumblers felt so strongly about teaming up with The National Watermelon Association is due to the connection to family. Watermelon is always present at family barbecues in the summer and picnics in the fall with Watermelon now available all year round as it is imported to the US. We have learned that the Watermelon Industry itself is built on strong family values as the majority of the seed, bin and box and agricultural companies are passed down from generation to generation. They have a world renowned Watermelon Carver that can carve anything out of a Watermelon - even Elvis. They have Watermelon Queens that are also their PR reps who go from festival to festival to schools teaching the nutritious and healthy points Watermelon offers along fun filled watermelon activities for the whole family to enjoy.
Since March is National Nutrition Month and Spring and Summer are on our heels, it is a great time to focus on Watermelon, introduce and spread the awareness as to its benefits and how it is fun for the whole family.
