Many patients would like to alter the color of their eyes for cosmetic reasons only. I would absolutely positively volunteer to do this solely for the cosmetic value of it. My mother, and all my siblings have blue eyes and I was the only child to inherit the brown gene trait. Although it is not that pronounced one of my Iris's is only half colored and this has always bothered me. In the direct light some people have actually asked me, "Do you know you have two different colored eyes?" Yes, I do know. It isn't even that that bothers me. I have never felt like my eye color is interesting, and envy those people who use their beautiful eyes to capture attention. Yes, I would volunteer for this in a New York minute. I'd select exotic green or blue like my family.
There are risks as with any other surgery. I had RK surgery years ago before anyone knew if that was safe and people who were scared only did one eye at a time. Not me, I jumped right in there and did both eyes the same day and laughed as friends led me out with both eyes taped up and was temporarily blind. I would imagine the Colored Iris Implant Surgery is no more uncomfortable than current laser surgery.
This surgery may not correct refractive errors and not all patients are candidates for it, but those who are can still wear prescription contact lens or glasses after the Color Iris Implantation.
Colored Iris Implants are not just a cosmetic surgery, for some it is life changing!
This procedure can correct rare conditions of the eye such as injury, hereditary absence of the Iris ( Aniridia), Occular albinism, cosmetic disfigurement, previous eye surgery complications.
There are currently 4 colors: Black, Brown, Blue & Green. Vision is expected to remain blurry for 2-4 days.
No one except a trained Opthalmologist will be able to tell you have the implants.
I say sign me up! This would be so exciting to turn my brown eyes a flirtatious blue or green.
I'd also think it would be so uplifting for the show producers to select an albino and a person with a current eye injury and restore their image. This would be life changing for them. And this is the purpose of The Doctors.
