I have been struggling with Fibromyalgia for 3 years. In that time period, I have tried more than 25 medications including the ones advertised for Fibromyalgia. In addition, I have tried tricyclic anti-depressants, SSRI's, SNRI's, a variety of anti seizure medication and various pain medications. None has worked for me. I continue to have hope that something will work in the future.
The pain and fatigue associated with this condition can be extremely debilitating. It is difficult for people to understand the amount of pain that is experienced. Exercise is such an important component, however, sometimes there is a vicious cycle associated with this. The more that is done, the worse things can be, so pacing one's self is an important role.
This condition has caused me to leave my job (which I loved). Complicating this condition is the difficulty in having LTD insurers supporting favorable claims for the patient. It is a constant battle, which in the end (as I have learned the hard way) requires legal council to assist with working your way through the process.
Any type of stress, be it physical or emotional, exacerbates the condition. Add to that, the burden of not being able to work, to ensure financial security and to pay for medications and treatment makes the situation worse.
I think it would be beneficial if people had a better understanding of what it is to have a condition that can cause so much disruption in one's life.
In addition, others who have this condition should be aware of what an individual can go through not only from a medical/clinical perspective but from an insurance/ERISA and financial perspective as well.
Thanks for listening!
