How do I lose weight?

I used to go to the gym on a regular basis and used to be fit and know there is no gym where I live but I have 3 pound weights which I have not used and I need to start using them also my doctor told me I am over weight but not obese and I have 2 Jilllian Micheals workout videos and I need to be encouraged. I am slso a vegeterian and I do not eat fish at all and I get my protien by eating boca burgers and veggie burgers. I also try to make protien shakes with protien powder at least 1 or twice a week and I know I need to have a shake at least twice a day everyday.

I'm a christian too and here are some exercises you can do with 3-pound weight: woodchopper, lunge-kickback-curl-press (all-in-one), shoulder press, squat run, shoulder press, etc.  Many people just give you ordinary workouts/exercises from small muscles (bicep curls, crunch, tricep extention, etc) but never mention about big muscles from mid-section (hips, abs, core) & lower body (glutes, quads, calves, thighs).  Here are the workouts/exercises you can do:

(When you do your core workouts, engage your core entire time of workout)

The key point is that big muscles burn big amount of fat.  As you work on your mid-section & lower body, it gives you stability & much needed balance.  And that leads to much less injury as you work.  Try it! You will be surprised how effective these workouts/exercises are and you will find it quickly.  Make sure you stretch before & after the workouts/exercises and stay hydrated.  Good luck.

Hi I'm not a christian but I am very spiritual and believe in a loving God.  Glad to hear you volunteer at the animal shelter, that's what I want to do and will look into it.  Here's some basic advice from me:

 

Go to a site like WebMd or MayoClinic and look for their Calorie Calculator.  Punch in your info and see how many calories a day they recommend you consume each day to lose weight.

 

Find exercises that you love to do.  Walking, jogging, jumping rope, etc.  I like putting on some music and dancing for 30 minutes to an hour.  I also do weights...5 pounds...a few times a week, because building/maintaining muscle is very important. 

 

Also, subscribe to your favorite fitness magazine.  They'll have tips on nutrition and show some cool exercises. 

 

I'm also vegetarian, actually more vegan.  I get my protein from a vegetarian protein powder and I have it in a fruit smoothie every morning.  If you replace your regular breakfast with a smoothie--or even start drinking a smoothie if you never ate breakfast--you can possibly lose weight just by doing that!  Right now, I blend hemp protein powder, unsweetened almond milk, a banana, some frozen blueberries (if I have them in stock), and sometimes I'll add ground flaxseeds or chia seeds.  I also get protein from beans, legumes, quinoa, and nuts. 

 

Try to automate your breakfasts and lunches (I have pretty much the same thing every day), then you can figure out your calories quickly when you plan your different dinners.

Thank you I will definetly check out those sites Igtwins23 also Greenfish I do not work at a animal shelter no more for where I live there is not one close by for right now I am trying to work on my anger also trying to lose weight which means alot to me right now.

i am doing that to the jullian michaels dvds i am doing the extreme shred and shredding the abs  buying processed foods are not the way to go if you are vegan you can make your food for one weeks worth like soups or 3 bean chili  go to foodnetwork.com and they have great recipes  but remember in order to loose the weight jullian always says the more you eat the more you have to excersice so count your calories how to do that that is easy  look on the back of the box it will say per serving  one serving of spinach is 7 calories so put it in a book and add everything and that is your total calories you have to burn plus more to loose weight   i know you can do it is hard and the burning sinsation but keep it up

Rx for anger issues:

Pray or meditate daily.

Try deep belly breathing exercises and do for 5 mins a day (or more).

Be a better listener than a talker.

Don't sweat the small stuff. 

Try one of those aggressive martial arts workouts...there was a guy on Dr. Oz the other day that does something called Tap or something, didn't quite catch the name, but there's a move where you lift your knee and grab an imaginary head of someone and bash it into your knee, then do it to your other knee, and repeat for 30 seconds!  I like that idea of getting your aggression out that way.

Hi Greenfish what do you mean by RX for anger for I am taking medication for my anger which is working.

I mean that these are some other things you can do in daily life that can help with anger.  In my opinion, too often in our country, we rely on medication to help us with everything in life.  It may be helpful for a while, but I believe there are other ways to solve our medical and emotional problems.  Just be careful not to "over-medicate".....

For example, did you know that a magnesium deficiency can cause anger issues?  Look to see how much magnesium you are getting in your diet...you can find sites online that tell the amount of magnesium in different foods.

Hi Greenfish my doctor has me on medication for with out it my anger can get worse for I was off it and my anger was worse then he put me back on a different medication which is working and I do not sel medicate at all and he told me that I will be on medication for the rest of my life also he told me to exercise which I try to go on walks daily thank you for your advice.

Maybe the 17 day diet? My doctor told me the same thing... the 17DD really works, I have done it before and I lost 13lbs in 7 days... and now, I am doing it again, I am on my 4th day. I am down 5.2. I eat a lot of veggies and fish (I know you don't like fish, and understand that you are vegeterian) - so perhaps substituing those potein meats with other sources of protein?

Hey everyone,

I just want you to know 3 weeks ago I weighed 166.6 and now I weigh 159.2 yeah 7 pounds for I have been doing Jillian Micheals Banish Fat Boost Metabilism and I am invited to my friends wedding in September so I need to lose 19 more pounds so I am going on walks and sometimes jogging to keep the weight off.

Hi everyone I have good news I have been eating really healthy and I am no longer over weight thanks to Jillian Micheals also going on walks, yeah!! I am so excited and I am still a vegeterian. I cut out the salt also I stay away from unhealthy fat.
