Hello there, I am writing to see if anyone has ever heard of alpha-1-antitrypsin. Just found out Friday I have it and will have to go through alot of medical procedures. I am scared to death!!! I am getting the lap-band done to lose weight and they make you go through all kinds of test first. That is where they found out about alpha-1 I am 39 and the older I get the more stuff they find is wrong with me. Goodness, this is no fun getting older but..... I look forward to any comments about my situation. Thanks.

I have also heard of this. I am a 38 year old woman that has been really sick lately. I was tested for the alpha 1 after i talked the drs into doing a chest xray while i was sick for over 2 months! To find out i have copd. Since then i got the results of the alpha 1 and i am a carrier. Now have to take my kids to be tested, and had to let my sisters also know. Bad thing is i am a smoker and cant seem to drop the habit. Copd runs in my family and now i have it and im on oxygen at night and have been out of work since sept. The best thing is google it evey where!! Get as much info on it. I hope this does help. And good luck!
