Allergic Reaction

Hi my name is Tara, I have allergies to pollen, trees, grass, fruit, vegetables, nuts and seeds and a couple more items. I've had allergies to foods for a little over a year now i have a 3 year old daughter that loves her fruits and vegetables i can not make anything for her to eat because i cant even touch them or else I would break out all over. I have tried allergy shots and i even got a allergic reaction from them. I can not do anything without my eyes watering my skin being covered in rashes. It kind of has ruined my life because when i go out to eat somewhere I have to ask everybody what is all in it because i can not have alot of stuff. I would like to do more things. It is lowering my self esteem I can not wear shorts becuase i have scars and rashes i am so ashamed. Is there anything out there that i can do to over come all of this. I live in Nebraska and the air just makes my eyes water all day every day all year long.

I'm usually not an advocate for taking medication, I like natural remedies, but have you tried OTC Claritin? http://www.claritin.com/claritin/en/home/index.jspa

Not only do I watch the Doctors tv show, but I watch Dr. Oz, and he has an allergist come on a few times that talks about fruit and other allergies...he always says to peel the skin of fruits like apples, etc, because that's where the pollen is.  He says a bunch of other info, but I can't remember.  Not sure about allergies to veggies though.

My husband and I have dry eyes, his due to allergies (his eyes get bloodshot red), mine due to contact lenses.  These glasses have helped tremendously.  They keep out the dust, pollen, and wind:

A couple other sites regarding eyewear for allergy sufferers (there's more eyewear glasses options):

Hope this helps just a little!

Try buying home grown honey. Take 1 tablespoon 3 times a day. The pollen used to make the honey is from around your area and it helps with the allergic reaction.  i used this for my daughter until she got older.  As for the allergy shots they might have to start you at a lower dose and build up your immunity slower. Good Luck.

I just looked at my vitamin supplement book this weekend and happened to come across some natural remedies for allergies that I didn't know about.  You'll have to do further research yourself to figure out if it's worth it, plus the proper dosage, and don't forget to discuss with your doctor to see if they are safe to take with your current medications:

  • Beta carotene as well as other carotenoids.  I'm quoting the book, "Six carotenoids (alpha-carotene, beta-carotene, lycopene, lutein, zeathanthin, canthaxanthin, and cryptoxanthin, may prevent allergic rhinitis in adults."  (I've taken a supplement called "Food Carotene" that had some of those.  It worked, because my acne cleared up!)
  • Vitamin C  (Drs usually say that 250mg-500mg is safe to take, possibly 1000mg is safe, divided into smaller doses)
  • Essential Fatty Acids (Flax oil, fish oil, evening primrose oil, borage oil, just to name a few!)
  • N-acetyl cysteine, otherwise known as NAC  (There is scientific evidence that this prevents the flu!  My hubby takes and he hasn't gotten the flu since!)
  • Quercetin (a bioflavonoid found in apples and onions...this particular bioflavonoid reduces inflammation)

I'm a mom from Colorado and batteled allergies my whole life. I was diagnossed with Rheumatoid arthritus 10 years ago and recently found out that on top of the extreeme enviromental allergies that I am alergic to SOY, PEANUTS, wheat, corn, and shellfish. The soy and peanuts were off the charts. And I never knew I was allergic to them as I always had the enviromental symptoms and tried the shots to no avail. Too alergic! Anyway... Eleminated those items and I can eat fruit again and my RA got better. The Soy and wheat are the biggest problem for me. I can't believe how much better I feel after I elimated it and it lessened the reaction from the other allergies. You may want to get tested for this or avoid it for a couple of weeks and see how you feel!

Honey from your local area is also great and Zyrtec works for me.

I just dusted off and cracked open my other home remedy book, and honey does seems to be the thing that works in this particular book.  He recommends bee pollen, royal jelly, and honey for allergies.

Littleton chick, I also have a sensitivity to wheat and intolerance to milk.  I was consuming them all thru my 20s.  I thought rashes, stomach pain, and lots of colds and flus were normal.  Then in my 30s my symptoms got worse.  I cut these out of my life and noticed the difference, and never felt better.

Corn doesn't sit well with me either.  And I can tolerate just a little bit of soy, not a lot, because too much upsets my stomach and gives me gas.

Me too with the soy ... it is like oil and water in my stomach; doesn't mix.  Don't think i have  an allergy, just it doesn't sit well in me.

Melissa.
