Are there health risks to the meters being installed by the electric companies. I have found very conflicting stories on the smart meters. SCE says yes they are safe. World Health Organization has wanted to wait on installing them before testing is done on them. I live in So. Ca. they are installing them now and I am hesistant. No. Ca. have already banned them in 41 cities because of all the compalints against them. From minor problems like headaches, nausea, sleeplessness to problems with pacemakers, wireless ventilators, and pain pumps. Children and older adults are said to be most at risk. There have been cases of possible home fires in older homes because a strong surge of power from the smart meters. .They have not been tested and are not UL approved which is a concern. All electronics in the home are UL tested and approved..
These meters are sending out frequencies 24/7/365 in real time. Unfortunately, very little is being said wheter or not there are risks with these meters. I would like to know if this is just wild speculation (like the world coming to an end in December 2012) or if their are actual risks. I live in a condo so there will be 4 meters installed just outside my daughter's bedroom. I have asked electricans they don't know of anything to prevent the frequencies from coming through the walls. I know with millions possibly billions of dollars at stake for the electric companies they are not going to be forth coming about any risks. Is there anything we can do to prevent the frequencies from coming through the walls and into our home, or is there any reason for concern?

You ask a lot of great questions...but I don't know any answers :(
I've read a lot about frequencies, like from our computers being left on, other electronic devices, etc, and how they can interfere with children's learning, maybe cause sleep disturbances, maybe headaches. I don't know if frequencies cause any other major health issues though, like cancer??? Probably not...but who knows, they didn't know asbestos caused cancer until years later!
My memory is kind of hazy about what I read about ions a while back...I think, not sure though, frequencies create positive ions, which are bad. Negative ions are GOOD, and can be created in the household by soy candles (I have one that says that's what it does), bracelets or necklaces that are sold in sports stores AND new age stores...(wow, that's kind of random!), and Dr. Oz gave advice to get a special lamp that emits negative ions, I'm sure you can find it on his website...he has said recently on his show that studies have shown that negative ions de-stress you, make you calmer, more relaxed, because they get rid of excess positive ions (which are bad...positive means bad in this case!)
Call SCE and tell them you do not want one. We did that and they added us to the list of those who are refusing to have then installed.
I had not heard of the frequency issue but our issue is that they can for whatever reason turn your service off. Not that I am a DoomsDayer or anything but Big Brother already has too much access and control into our everyday lives.

Correction to my previous post: I have a BEESWAX candle that says that it emits negative ions, getting rid of bad smells. I had to use it this weekend, as my trash was smelling and I had to take it out. I lit my beeswax candle, and the stench was gone in minutes! I guess this means that bad smells contain a lot of positive ions??? Still not sure how the science works!
There's an article in Vision Magazine (www.visionmagazine.com) called "Comfort Technology," that talks about smart meters, that they are like mini surveillance systems that the companies can use to spy on you (they can tell if someone's growing a lot of plants in their home...are they growing food, or are they growing marijuana?). Also, the article says that last year, the WHO declared that the microwave radiation emitted by smart meters and other wireless devices is a class 2B carcinogen, which is in the same category as lead, benzene, DDT, and dioxin. Ken Lesser says, "Our country is protecting corporate interests over human interests." Ken Lesser's Comfort Technology: www.advancedliving.com. Went to the site and saw that it's a clock. They never say HOW it works to reduce EMFs (it's a trade secret, they say), but I can only assume that the clock somehow emits negative ions to combat excessive positive ions from all electronic devices.
