When I went to school we had real lunches with real lunch ladies with little white hats they would make our lunches home made they would start in the early morning and have it ready by our lunch time. And the lunches where good and we had milk or juice to drink. Maybe schools should go back to making home cooking. Instead of this processed food junk plus it would provide jobs for more moms or grandmas. let me know if you as a mom think it would be better if they had home made lunches instead of that processed food of today. Vote.

I can't say I ever had anything but processed lunch foods growing up, but we did have the linch ladies in little white caps! Although, my sister and I were lucky enough to have a stay at home mom who made most of our meals and "treated" us to school-bought lunch on Friday (pizza day). I don't remember eating all that healthy growing up, but I do remember making up for it by exercising our tails off outside after school every day! If I could erase one invention it would be video games. Video games killed outdoor games long ago!
that is so true about the video games. but wee is fun lol
I totally disagree with what is being served in the schools today. It used to be hot lunches everyday except Friday - what I call Fast Food Day. Stuff like pizza, hot dogs, or hamburgers would be served on Friday. Now its Fast Food Day everyday and the kids are lucky if they get a "hot lunch" once a week. They serve pizza, hot dogs, chicken nuggets, tacos, etc. This is not what our kids should be eating. Oh, and did I mention what they serve for breakfast? Pizza! or a pancake on a stick, which is nothing but a corn dog with a breakfast sausage in it in stead of a weiner, honey buns, etc... What every happen to grits and eggs? It makes me laugh how they think just because they make the pizza with whole wheat dough or hot dogs with wheat buns that it's okay. It might be better, but it's still processed food. It's not what it used to be and on top of that, more than half of the kids throw more than half of their food away! I work in the schools and I see it. What really makes me mad is that this is literally our tax dollars being thrown away because more than 80% of the kids are on free/reduced lunch. There are things that kids will eat that are healthy. What ever happen to the lunch ladies actually cooking "home-cooked" meals?
About the video games.... I agree, but on the flip side I also think it's a nice alternative to being kidnapped or worse. I'm afraid to let my kids go out and play like I did when I was young because of the "freaks" out there walking around. My kids do get exercise though because they are involved in organized sports and they play outside, but it's inside of our fence with each other or me; they do not go down the street to play with kids like I did when I was young. It's too hard to trust their safety in today's society.
Oh and I wanted to bring out the fact that the lunch ladies don't even do dishes anymore because they use styrofoam plates! Isn't that so friendly to the environment! What's up with that? I don't understand what they do to take up all their time... my mom was a cook and they cooked everything from scratch, did dishes, served the kids, and cleaned up and worked the same hours.
I think the opinions on school lunches should not be put on all school districts everywhere, there are very good ones.THis subject really hits a nerve with me.I cook at a highschool from 5:30am til 1:00pm and never have idle time.I wrote a Blog (Real-time Lunchlady)on this website.I do dishes.
