My 6 month old has a cold. He is so stuffed up he can hardly eat from his bottle. He doesn't sleep at night. His cough sounds bad. Yesterday morning he coughed out flem.
I used vics vaporub and it doesnt seem to be helping at all. Same with the tylenol for cold and flu.

try dimetapp. You'll have to do the math to figure out how much. If you get infants, i think it might go down to three years... cut in half once, that'll get ya down to a year and a half, so cut that in half and it should be fine. it'll be like 1/4 of a teaspoon at the most. I know it's not exact math.. so it's up to you of course. You know on the children's (or you can look at the store) it has so much for whatever age.. keep cutting it down.. like if you cut it in half, cut the age in half. Or you might be able to call your doctor and ask them how much cold medicine you can give without having to go in. Just some ideas. hope it helps
Winninggrace,
Hey I'm so sorry to hear your little one is sick. Don't use Vicks Vapor Rub as it can make him worse.
"Infants and young children have airways that are much narrower than those of adults, so any increase in mucus or inflammation can narrow them more severely."but in infants and small children, this potentially can lead to respiratory distress," the study's authors concluded.
http://www.cbc.ca/health/story/2009/01/13/vicks.html This is the link to the article, be careful with the over the counter medications too, a lot of them can be more harmful than beneficial. A humidifier may help, if you're concerned you may need to see a doctor. I'm sorry I can't be more helpful.

Hi,
My nephew had a similar issue when he was an infant. My sister went into the bathroom had the shower run hot water (yes it was a waste of a resource but it was either my nephew or the water) and sat in the steam with him for a while. It was a make-shift sauna but Tuomas was able to breathe better.
The humidifier is a great idea! But remember if it persists I would bring him to a doctor.
My daughter has had that problem. If you go in and take a hot shower and have the bathroom all steamy that is sup post to help. another thing we were told is that if your baby can't stop coughing and it gets cold out side wrap the baby up so he is warm and let him breath the cold air out side. I thought it was wierd but it works. A humidifier works great also.
The humidifier works great for my nephews. I have a six month old nephew right now with this cold. We use the vicks humidifier and just let it sit in the same room as him. Also use one of those bulb schringes like the doctors use in the hospital to clean out his nose. They hate it but it helps. Try to tilt him up alittle when he sleeps to help breathing. Just keep an eye on him. Thats what we do for the boys. And if you have any doubt about whats going on the best place is the er. Good luck hope the little man gets better.
My son is going thru the same thing right now. The doctor said we pretty much just have to let the cold do its thing, but when we took him to the doctor we found out that he also had an ear infection. Its been over a week and he's finally getting better. I found the baby Vicks helps a lot. And plenty of water to break up the flem.
Great thank you all. He's finally gotten over his cold. :)
