Questions regarding a Calorie Counting Diet

I am attempting to count my calories, and burn more calories than I'm consuming, in order to work off some lbs.

Do I count the calories of all foods, or do I not include the calories I consume as fruits and vegetables?

Also, If I am burning more calories than I'm eating, just by the calories I'm burning on my treadmil is that suficient enough?

Does there have to be a significantly higher number of calories burnt than consumed to lose weight? Or is it just as long as it totals more?

Hope someone can help me out here, and thanks.

Hi I hope I can help.

I used to weigh 330 pounds and now I am 170ish

ALL CALORIES of ALL foods must be counted this includes all LIQUIDS please read the labels.

Than what you "burn" off you should document in a healthy new log book.  M P O My personal op/Unless medically ordered I think you should weigh yourself in the AM once a week and then be so proud each week of your success.  Also have you considered doing a whole body tape measurement?

Neck, Breast, Upper arm,Waist, Hips, Upper thigh, Calf foot etc  It is so amazing how many total inches you also loose.  Also you should write down in this book everything that you eat and you drink so you can see if you are an emotional eater etc.

Hope this has helped and it sounds like you are well on your way!  Please keep blogging!  For the first time NO SNOW I went and walked 1.5 miles today!  The sun was shinning and The walk was wonderful!

Also wondering, should I avoid Diet pop? It does say 0 cals, but could there be hidden calories? Considering it is a soda

Yes, count ALL calories including liquids like labelfree said.  They all count.  What I do is focus on is how clothes fit vs a number on a scale.  I found I got too wrapped up in a number so I gave it up.  Maybe once a month I will weigh but hardly.  Diet soda -- look at the label for that, if it says 0 then it has 0.  Try not to drink too much of it because it isn't great for you IMO.

Great, thank you both :D

As for the counting calories of fruits and vegetables. I've heard about foods with empty calories. So foods that take as much energy in your body to eat and digest the foods, resulting in already burning more calories than that particular food has in itself.

Is this really true? Then would those foods with empty calories be excluded?

Yes, it is true, there are empty calorie foods and some that take more to digest than to eat (ie, negative calories).  IMO, I would not exclude those with empty calories.  For "negative calorie" foods, google "negative calorie foods" and it will come up with some.  BUT, I'd still include those when counting calories.

Labelfree:

"The negative calorie phrase refers to a small list of foods (shown below) which  contain such little energy that the body uses more energy to digest and absorb the energy and nutrients. This means that from eating these foods alone,  there is potential for a net loss of calories from the body. This negative energy balance is a biological necessity in order to lose weight. "
