On a Lighter Note....

Forgot to say, I recorded the wedding ....  I'm not such a fanatic I stayed up all night ... but then again, I have a DVR so..... well lets just say that when Charles and Diana got married it was before not only TiVo and DVR's but also VCR's so I do remember getting up for that with my Mom and watching it live.   Anyway, I digress.   Today (or really last night) I...

Fairy Tale or New Nightmare?

Well the Royal Wedding is over, a lovely ceremony with a lovely bride and a handsome prince .... every girl's fairytale right?   Maybe.  But in watching it one thing struck me immediately.   Kate was almost impossibly thin.  I had heard and read that she went on a diet before the wedding.... ridiculous I thought, tabloid nonsense, she was already very thin.   I dismissed that as media exploitation to sell papers.  However, seeing...

The Bones of Me - And You

This morning I woke up to an astonishing 186.6 pounds.   I knew I was thinner ... you all know what I  am talking about... I lay in bed this moring and ran my hands down my body, across my belly, down the sides of my hips and I felt the bones of me .... my hips, my ribs, my self -  my true being is finally coming out and I welcomed her.  I have...

I Survived Meatloaf Night!!!

Just a quick update - I did manage to avoid the tempting meatloaf the other night - thanks for all your kind words of support!  I did not even have to use the clothes pin on the nose - I just toughed it out and ate my chicken breast and salad.  Best of all, the next morning I weighed in at 189.4!!!!  Under the 190 mark!  That alone has given me the inspiration I needed...

MAJOR Temptation tonight - Say a little Prayer for me!

Forgot to mention, in honour of the Canucks hockey game my boys begged me to make my world famous bacon four cheese-burger meatloaf - with mashed potatoes.  Yikes - that seems almost a bit pornographic to even say that on this site!  I could give Paula Dean a run for her money with this recipe.  Well, maybe not, I did use extra lean ground sirloin, whole wheat bread crumbs and (little do they know) low...

GO Canucks GO!!!!

For all of you who do not follow NHL Hockey, sorry for this!  LOL!  I can't help it, I'm a die hard hockey Mom and a definite Vancouver Canucks fan!  Here's my good wishes for the boys tonight - it's game 4 (of a 7 game series) against the Blackhawks - last year's Stanley Cup Champions - and we are up 3 games to 0 and our boys just scored!!!!  My heart rate just jumped...

Ups, Downs & Plateaus

I haven't reported a weigh in recently as I've been a bit frustrated with the scale.  I keep bouncing between 190 and 192 for the last two weeks.  That is good, don't get me wrong, considering I started at 234 I'm really happy with my progress but I would like to see a number in the 180's soon!  I do find that when I am about to register a loss the scale does seem to...

I am in LOVE with Jamie Oliver!!!

I've been struggling with whether or not to write this post - I know the whole debate about school meals is a sensitive issue for some people.  I can't help it though, I LOVE Jamie Oliver's Food Revolution!  If you missed it last night try and tune in next week, it really makes you think.  I love what he is doing in trying to educate people about making healthy food choices and what kids are...

Gym vs Exercising at Home

Excersise is often a popular topic here, of course, and many of you choose to exercise at home while many others have joined gyms.  It's no secret that the month of January is the biggest sales month of the year for all gyms, everyone is trying to keep to their New Year's resolutions - in fact, a large number of us joined the 17DD in January, no coincidence there.  Many others go out and buy...

Funny , but maybe TMI for some and maybe a PSA for others

I've been rather serious lately, usually I'm kinda funny, at least I think so, maybe a few others here get me and my hubby gives me an occasional belly laugh - although mainly I get eye rolls from him so I think my humor is mainly for women.  So tonight, a return to funny, for all of us girls.  First though, a bit of a disclaimer ....if you are a guy, you may not want...

Setting Goals and Getting There

My good friend Tifa asked me to share a bit with everyone about how I've managed so far to set my weight loss goals and achieve them and what I have learned along the way.  Well first of all, this healthy eating program (I don't call it a diet anymore, it's the way I live) is the key.  Eating the right foods at the right time has made a HUGE difference.  I used to be...

Surviving Temptation With a Little Help from my Friends

I was reading Citygirlbites blog about tempting treats in the office and it got me thinking.  Lucky for me I work on my own, so if there are any tempting treats in my office it's my own darn fault.  I do have to deal with temptation though, as do all of us.  In fact, last night was a hard one for me - my son's hockey team had their wrap up party and it was...

The REAL lesson of the 17DD

I've been sitting back these past few days reading everyone's blogs and taking it all in.  It's been a very busy past couple of weeks with work and my boys both playing in the last parts of play off hockey so I have not had as much time to write as I would like.  (BTW - got to Mommy brag a bit - My younger boy's team won their play offs to win the Pee...

A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Message Boards

So as usual, this morning I make my lemon water and power up my computer to check out the blogs and my email before starting work.  I check my home email and there are three messages, two are sales offers from Penningtons and Addition Elle (for my US friends, these are plus size ladies wear shops in Canada).  I started to look at them and then sat back and smiled.  I no longer need to...

OMG!!! Check out my new photos!

Ok I can't believe I actually titled this OMG - like I'm a teenager.  LOL!  Well - this morning I FEEL like a teenager!  I got on the scale this morning, not my usual weigh in day but I was feeling lighter somehow - and it read 192.7!  I got off, rubbed my eyes and popped back on and what do you know - it said the same thing!  That's 41.3 pounds gone.  I can...

Don't forget to measure!

I've been a bit quiet these past few weeks, I tell myself it's because work has been so busy but the reality is I've been a bit down as the weight loss is not going as fast as I would like and I've been frustrated.  On the bright side, I am down another three pounds, I am 195 now which is great but it's only three more pounds since March 11.  My total loss so...

Dress for Success

A good friend of mine just got a job with Dress for Success, an international non profit organization that helps disadvantaged women get back into the workplace by providing them with professional clothing for job interviews.  This is a really wonderful organization, over the years as my weight fluctuated up and down, I've donated clothing to them many times.   With all the weight loss going on here, it is inevitable that there will be...
